To do lists, weather, Thanksgiving and sharing Joy

Dear Zoie,

Another week and other than work I can’t remember much what else happened. I can think of all the stuff I need to do or get done but haven’t yet. I still have not cleaned out the garden yet, I still need to clean and straighten out under the back porch, and I still need to clean out the garage. We did get the bed that Austin bought from Erik and Heather over to Austin’s on Wednesday night. We got all the pieces in their house and while putting it together we realized we needed some supports to go under the box springs that we did not have. I think Erik and Heather just used some boxes or 2 X 4’s for that purpose. We decided to go to Home Depot really quick to buy some. We just needed some bed frame support bars to go under the box springs. Turns out that they are hard to find by them selves and Home Depot and Lowes do not carry bed frame stuff. We ended up going to several mattress and bed stores with no luck. We found that you pretty much had to buy a whole bedframe to get some, and they were usually attached to the bedframe. We finally found some alone online so we ordered them and ended up just putting the box springs on the floor with the mattress on top. The needed parts should come this week and then we can put the bed together. We though about just getting several 2x4’s and cutting them to length but decided to just order the support bars and wait.

The weather has finally started to turn cold again. It warmed up for a week or so, but we finally have a storm coming tomorrow that should bring some snow to the mountains and almost to the valleys. We are all hoping we get plenty of water and snow again this winter.

Uncle Doug’s family was going to come over this week with us for Thanksgiving but Jean and several other apparently have COVID, so they have decided to just stay at their place with their family. So, we are now going to have thanksgiving with just our family over at Hailee’s house on Thursday. We will have to send you pictures. Thanksgiving is pretty much an American holiday – do the missionaries have any plans to do anything that day. When I was in Korea, they had a fall “harvest” celebration and holiday, does New Zealand have any kind of similar holiday? If so, since you are in the southern hemisphere it was probably about 6 months ago anyway, right??

Well, again it is late, and I need to go to bed. Looking forward to talking tomorrow if I can. I work until 6pm but call whenever is most convenient for you.

Remember do not just endure to the end, but thrive, work hard and enjoy every minute of it. I often think back on my mission and think how nice it would be to again, just be able to focus on one thing all day every day – and that one thing, sharing the gospel and the joy that Jesus Christ can bring to each of us, is such a wonderful thing to share. Anyway, just a thought…..

Love you, lots
Dad
