Do the Basics Brilliantly

Hi family!

What a great week it has been. So many miracles and good things happening.

Dad- Thanks for the pictures! I have not received the letter from the Stake Presidency yet! I think it might have to be forwarded from my last area? Hopefully I'll get it soon, I'm excited to read it. Thanks for sending those out, I know they mean a lot to all of our stake missionaries! It was great to see the pictures of y'all at the temple! What a bummer Grandma missed it! haha That stinks! But I'm sure it was still a wonderful experience. I love the temple! Good to see you with the Sisters in the stake! I can't wait to be able to visit with them and be a better member missionary. Being a full time missionary is the best ever, it's fun seeing both sides if you know what I mean! Y'all are great missionaries! Keep it up! Oh!! By the way! We had dinner with the Costons last night, they have been members for about 3 years. The missionary who taught and baptized them was Elder Schenk! (totally spelled that wrong, but you know what I'm talking about right?)

Mom- Guessing you are at school right now! haha Good luck with everything. Don't know when mid-terms are (probably soon) but good luck on all those, you will do great! Keep being amazing, and know that I love you! Hope your week has gone well and you are having fun. The wedding is sneaking up, wish I was there to help but I'm sure y'all got it covered. It will be beautiful!

Kennedy- You went through the temple!!!!! Woohoo Sistah!! Can't wait to go with you! I thought of you last week when I was there! You'll have to let me know about your experience. Thanks for the Pebble and the Penguin quotes. I am sitting here in the library trying not to bust up laughing!! So funny. You are the best!! Love you!

Brayson- Yo! Why you still growing? Dad sent me a picture of y'all this week and I hardly recognized you and it's only been 6 months! What is this! haha How's school? Keeping you busy I bet! How's basketball? I miss our Sports Night in Wilmington, I was getting better! haha We wil have to play when I get home, except by that time you'll probably be taller than me..... Dang it! haha Keep up the good work, remember I love you!

Like I said before, this week was GREAT.

I missed an appointment with Katie while I was on an exchange in Fayetteville! So sad! (But I got to see a llama so that was good.) But when I got back the Sisters told me about the lesson and it made me so happy. So Katie is in her 20's and recently divorced, with a 2 year old son. They are the cutest. She had been meeting with Sister Workman and Sister Z for a few weeks before we got here. Katie has just been on fire. She watched General Conference at a members home and loved it. She came with us to the General Women's Broadcast as well and liked it too! She has been reading in the Book of Mormon every night and feels the peace the gospel brings. She keeps the commitments that we give her. It is the BEST feeling when you walk into a home, ask how they've been, and they greet you with their scriptures in hand ready to tell you what they have learned and felt. Katie has been going through some hard, hard times. I can't even imagine the hurt her heart is feeling right now, and sometimes it's hard for us 20 year old girls to relate and teach to what she needs, because we have not been there. But Katie invites us back every week to teach her. Why? I don't know exactly, but I think it's because she is coming to realize that she has a Savior, Brother, and Friend, who loves her and knows her. That is what the scriptures teach and that is what the Holy Ghost testifies of. I am so grateful and excited for her to continue reading the Book of Mormon. I have seen that change in her and it is amazing. I hope y'all get to meet her one day. :) But the point that I wanted to share is that Katie does the basics brilliantly. Sister Julie B. Beck talked about this in a training to the seminary and institute teachers in 2009. How do we do the basics brilliantly? It does not mean to be perfect, but rather to be precise. Act with intention and precision and you will be brilliant.

So one day last week a few of our appointments fell through (story of my life) and we were doing some "stop bys" to meet some people in the ward we did not know! So we knock on this door and we hear a little kid screaming "MOM! MOM SOMEONE IS AT THE DOOR! HURRY! COME ON MOM!" And soon we see someone poke their eyes through the blinds and yell through the door "Oh my goodness I am so sorry! I just got out of the shower, can you come back in 30 minutes?!" (It took us a while to understand what she was saying but we got the hint and came back later.) <30.MINUTES.LATER.> We knock on the door and this cute girl answers and greets us so nicely! We thought she was the member we had gone to see but after an awkward bit on the doorstep we found out the member had moved and this was the new home owner! She invited us in and we got to know her. Her name is Lucinda and she is a recently divorced mom with a 4 year old son. She is the sweetest!! She just had a glow in her eyes that mad my heart happy. We taught her about the Book of Mormon and how it is a powerful witness and testament of Jesus Christ. We have another appointment with her this week and I can hardly contain my excitement. Missionary work is the best.

There are so many wonderful people out there in the world it amazes me. Something I love that was taught in General Conference is that the Atonement of Jesus Christ makes bad men good, and good men better. This gospel is a gospel of learning and growing. Everyone on this earth is going through situations and experiences that only life can give! We are all just walking each other back home. I hope I can make this journey full of joy and hope and love for those I teach, and that through my actions they will see the light of the Savior. I just want to hold their hand and tell them it will be okay. Because it will. The Savior makes it wonderful.

I am running out of time and I have so much more I want to share and say!!!!!!

Not okay. Why do I only have a few moments to write you everything in my heart and mind, it's impossible!! haha

Last bit of good news........ CHRISTMAS IS COMING! They are already selling Christmas trees and decorations here. Not even kidding. And it's totally okay with me, it's the most wonderful time of the year! Okay okay I will calm down and celebrate Halloween and Thanksgiving but I just wanted to share my excitement. Can't wait to talk to y'all!

Okay got to go, but I love you ALL so much!

I hope you have a WONDERFUL week!!!!!!!

Love,

Sister Sicily Wilcock
