Hermana Maxfield

Happy One Year!

Hey everyone!

I hope you all had a great passed week! This week was kind of rough for us, but we recognized that Satan was working really hard on us and just kept working. We found out that Bryan - the really awesome lesson that we had last week- can´t take the lessons because his mom doesn´t want him to, so that was a HUGE bummer. Heavenly Father has His purposes.

Miracle 1- We were searching for a referral from the Elders that we had received like 4 weeks ago and could never find him... This week we had the feeling to stop by his house even though they had told us that he is usually in school at that time. We stopped by anyway and he was there! We had a really awesome discussion on the Book of Mormon and even though it wasn´t a set lesson, we felt the spirit SO strong.
Miracle 2- We were looking for someone else and we stopped to ask directions from someone in the colmado ("like a little minimarket, but not really that sells like snack foods and the necessary stuff you need to cook like oil and eggs") and a lady stopped us and was like, ¨I want you to come preach to me right now!¨ So we went to her house and she was REALLY interested. Then we passed by another day of the week and her boyfriend was there and was REALLY interested too. They have a 5 year old girl that is so cute and just makes me want to finish my degree already haha.

Anyway I don´t think it is a coincidence that I was reading in the Book of Mormon this week about the BEST missionaries in the world - Alma, Ammon, and Amulek. It starts in Alma 14 explaining their situation. It says,
22 And many such things, yea, all manner of such things did they say unto them; and thus they did mock them for many days. And they did withhold food from them that they might hunger, and water that they might thirst; and they also did take from them their clothes that they were naked; and thus they were bound with strong cords, and confined in prison.
25 And it came to pass that they all went forth and smote them, saying the same words, even until the last; and when the last had spoken unto them the power of God was upon Alma and Amulek, and they rose and stood upon their feet.
26 And Alma cried, saying: How long shall we suffer these great afflictions, O Lord? O Lord, give us strength according to our faith which is in Christ, even unto deliverance. And they broke the cords with which they were bound; and when the people saw this, they began to flee, for the fear of destruction had come upon them.
I love that part because they waited until the very last minute and suffered that much just to bring to show how much power Heavenly Father has. They prayed to Him for the strength and they received it because they were faithful.

Then after that they received great blessings as missionaries. They left once again to preach the word.
15 And thus did Alma and Amulek go forth, and also many more who had been chosen for the work, to preach the word throughout all the land. And the establishment of the church became general throughout the land, in all the region round about, among all the people of the Nephites.
16 And there was no inequality among them; the Lord did pour out his Spirit on all the face of the land to prepare the minds of the children of men, or to prepare their hearts to receive the word which should be taught among them at the time of his coming—
17 That they might not be hardened against the word, that they might not be unbelieving, and go on to destruction, but that they might receive the word with joy, and as a branch be grafted into the true vine, that they might enter into the rest of the Lord their God.
They continued to work with all of their might, mind, and strength and Heavenly Father blessed them with people that would listen to them. They preached for 14 years... I cannot imagine how tired their bodies and minds were if I am sitting here dying haha. Then in Chapter 17 it says:
9 And it came to pass that they journeyed many days in the wilderness, and they fasted much and prayed much that the Lord would grant unto them a portion of his Spirit to go with them, and abide with them, that they might be an instrument in the hands of God to bring, if it were possible, their brethren, the Lamanites, to the knowledge of the truth, to the knowledge of the baseness of the traditions of their fathers, which were not correct.
10 And it came to pass that the Lord did visit them with his Spirit, and said unto them: Be comforted. And they were comforted.
11 And the Lord said unto them also: Go forth among the Lamanites, thy brethren, and establish my word; yet ye shall be patient in long-suffering and afflictions, that ye may show forth good examples unto them in me, and I will make an instrument of thee in my hands unto the salvation of many souls.
12 And it came to pass that the hearts of the sons of Mosiah, and also those who were with them, took courage to go forth unto the Lamanites to declare unto them the word of God.
They prayed and fasted for the strength to move on and prayed to be instruments in the hands of God. As I have been in my mission for one year now, I have grown to love this story. It especially gave me strength this week to keep moving on. It really is hard to serve God with all your might, mind, heart, and strength, but as we reach out to Him for help and do His will we can do anything and we can be instruments in His hands. Thank you all for your support and love. I am very grateful for this wonderful blessing that I have to share the gospel with everyone and I wouldn´t change it for the world. Even when things are hard, I find the strength to keep moving on through the scriptures and through prayer and fasting. If you are passing through a hard time, remember that you are not alone and to serve everyone else just like Jesus would and you will be a happier person. I love this work and I love my Savior Jesus Christ.

I attached pictures of Hermana Maxfield and I on my one year mark. We did blind-folded makeovers, made s'mores, and celebrated breaking our fast with M and Ms because we are the M and M team.
