Hermana Maxfield

Mangos and Rain... Yup, I'm in the DR!

Hey everyone!

Hope everyone is doing well this week and that you enjoyed your weekends! Hermana Maxfield and I are enjoying our time together. We have found that we are quite the team. We have pretty similar personalities and we just love the mission. We have a desire to be the best missionaries that we can be and to be the most obedient that we can be. It is a good change :) This week we received 30 mangos from random people in the street. They told us that they are ALREADY tired of mangos. I don´t understand that, haha! Anyway, one morning we were contacting and I saw this PERFECT mango so I went and picked it up and this man took us to his back yard and gave us some. My love for mangos gave me an opportunity to contact, haha.

Nothing really interesting happened this week, but I have learned to find the miracles of my mission. 2 days ago it was raining really hard at night and our cita had fallen... THE WORST! We had no idea what to do. I had a moment like in the movies where the devil is on one shoulder and an angel is on the other. The devil told me to go to a member´s house and wait until the rain stops. The angel told me to suck it up and go contacting. I fought for a little bit, but FINALLY I decided to go contact. The first door that we screamed at let us in. It was a 16 year old with 2 kids. She was really kind and I felt a very special spirit about her. I felt that her life hasn´t been easy. I am so grateful that I was willing to be obedient and follow the Spirit because if not, I wouldn´t have had the opportunity to get to know this young girl. I didn´t take the easy way out. Sometimes there are ways that seem easier, but in the long run they aren´t the easier option. Although I have no idea what is going to happen, we have another cita with her on Wednesday. I have learned that I need to trust more in my Father in Heaven and more in myself. I need to embrace the personality that I have. With His help and my personality, we can do great things. I found this quote that I really love that says, "We have God’s spiritual DNA coursing through our veins. We are His sons and daughters and His heirs. Swat away any deceiving messages, beliefs, or habits that cause you to cower in the corners of your life. Don’t let them nip at your heels and make you feel fearful or hurt. Rise to the level of your eternal stature. You are royalty." Sometimes we allow Satan to tear away at us, but we shouldn´t allow him to do that! We should rise above him and recognize who we are.

Another scripture that I wanna share is in 2 Nephi 31 verses 19 and 20. They say: And now, my beloved brethren, after ye have gotten into this strait and narrow path, I would ask if all is done. Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for ye have not come thus far save it were by the word of Christ with unshaken faith in him, relying wholly upon the merits of him who is mighty to save.
20 Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.
As members of the church or good people, we need to recognize that we can only do EVERYTHING through Jesus Christ. We need to press forward and trust in God´s love for us. We can press forward through reading the Book of Mormon and the Bible. If we endure this life, we will have eternal life.

Love you all and have a great Mother´s Day,
Hermana Maikoski
