Hermana Letinu

Bye Puerto Plata! Hellooooo.... ESPERANZA!

Hey everyone!

As you can tell by the title, I am no longer in Puerto Plata. I am now in Esperanza with Hermana Letinu. She is from Romania and she is 28 years old. She knows English, Spanish, and Romanian. She is a PURE sweetheart and we are going to have a fun time here in Esperanza. She came with Hermana Shaw into the mission, so I am the senior companion still. Esperanza is like a mixture of Puerto Plata and Jarabacoa. There is a church here and it is a ward, but things are a little crazy around here like in Jarabacoa haha. We´ll see how everything goes here! I was really sad to leave Puerto Plata and my ¨daughter¨ but that´s just part of the mission! It´s REALLY hot. Hotter than Puerto Plata and there are mosquitos, but I am not getting bit and things are really good here. The only problem is that my body is SO exhausted from the heat so I am always tired, but I am doing okay! Also, I ate pig heart! That was really interesting! It tasted like beef, but I totally freaked myself out and couldn´t eat any more haha.

On Tuesday, they told us about transfers, so it was a crazy day. Usually we leave with a member on Tuesdays and so we left with her again, but so many people invited us over to eat food. Elsa, the member, was so kind and drove us around to everyone. Someone invited us to eat arroz con leche and tacos. I felt so sick, but the members all helped me to feel better. I got no sleep that whole week and especially that day because I had to pack and write notes and write in journals. It was SO crazy, but it was fun and cool to see how much I actually loved those people and how much they loved me. Then the next day some members took us to the busses that we use to go to Santiago and I was crying so hard. It really is hard to leave your area because you come to love the people so much. This Sunday Hermana Shaw told me that some of our investigators are getting baptized in April and that Jefferson FINALLY came to church. It was really good to hear that they are seeing the fruits of our labors.

To be honest, since I have been in Esperanza things have been a little off and I don´t understand why. When they told me where I was going I didn´t feel like it was where I was supposed to go. Now that I have been here a little longer, I feel like it is where I am supposed to be. Satan has been working really hard on me and my self-esteem again. Usually that happens when I get it really high. He has been trying to get me to feel down, but I have learned that no matter how hard it is, I just need to push through and trust my Father in Heaven. Also, I have learned that Heavenly Father put people and things into my path to show that He cares and loves me, that He knows my situation. Whether it is a phone call or a comment that someone makes, I know that He is there helping me along the way. As I was studying this week I found a couple of scriptures that I wanna share and they are in Alma 37 verses 44-46, it says,

44 For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass,which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land.

45 And now I say, is there not a type in this thing? For just as surely as this director did bring our fathers, by following its course, to the promised land, shall the words of Christ, if we follow their course, carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise.

46 O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever.¨

In my moments of despair and difficulty, I have found strength in the scriptures. I LOVE how it says that it is EASY to give heed to the words of Christ and that those words will lead us to happiness and eternal life. The way truly is prepared and it is easy, but we need to stay on that path, if we don´t it is hard. Jesus Christ and His doctrine is that path!

This one is in Doctrine and Covenants 58 verses 2-7.

2 For verily I say unto you, blessed is he that keepeth my commandments, whether in life or in death; and he that is faithful in tribulation, the reward of the same is greater in the kingdom of heaven.

3 Ye cannot behold with your natural eyes, for the present time, the design of your God concerning those things which shall come hereafter, and the glory which shall follow after much tribulation.

4 For after much tribulation come the blessings. Wherefore the day cometh that ye shall be crowned with much glory;the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand.

5 Remember this, which I tell you before, that you may lay it to heart, and receive that which is to follow.

6 Behold, verily I say unto you, for this cause I have sent you—that you might be obedient, and that your hearts might be prepared to bear testimony of the things which are to come;

We do not know the plans that our Father in Heaven has for us, but we still need to keep his commandments and he will help us out. He sent us here to be obedient and sent us here to bear testimony of His great plan that He has for all of His children. Sometimes we cannot see what is ahead and we can´t understand what comes next, but He is ALWAYS there for us to help us because He loves us.

Love you all and have a great week,

Hermana Maikoski
