Puerto Plata

Hermana Lopez

Being a member of the church isn't easy.

Hello everyone!

This past week was REALLY great. We worked soooo hard and we were so tired, but it is a good kind of tired. One day we went running with the elders in our area and we passed by one of the beaches that is in Puerto Plata. I was just so amazed at the beauty of this island and of this Earth. Then I started to think about how the same Being that created this Earth created us as well. He loves us SO much and knows us individually. He knows our joys and our sorrows. He knows our tribulations and our happiness. Also I helped with the Primary Program here in Puerto Plata yesterday! That was fun and as always I felt the sweet, kindred spirits of the sweet children. I know that Heavenly Father has put me in places that I can use my talents and especially with the children. There is no coincidence to that!

Also we taught with A LOT of members this week. It was such a blessing to see their testimonies. They brought a different spirit to our lessons. A member, Gertrudis, that only has 3 years as a member of the church truly touched my heart. She walked near and far with us to ALL of our citas (lesson) for the day. As we were walking she told us that her son had died at 26 years of age, but that she knew that God had a plan for her and for him. She really knows that families can be together forever and she rejoices in that! Do we rejoice in what we already know? Then we brought her and another member to a lesson with a man named, Mejia. The Spirit was so strong as the testified of the blessings that they have through being a member of the gospel.

On the contrary, we had a cita (lesson) with a less-active member and she was talking about how hard it is to be a member of the church and that we always have to do things that are out of our comfort zone like getting a temple recommend and putting church first. It made me think about how it isn´t easy to be a member of the church, but as we sacrifice our will for the Father´s we will be blessed more than we can imagine. We will have REAL joy. I have seen that in my life. As I have sacrificed my time to be a missionary, I have seen the joy that the Gospel brings into our lives. If we take out a little bit of time to do the things that will bring us closer to our Heavenly Father, we will really be happy. We won´t worry and we will be able to do the things that may seem hard. Heavenly Father puts us out of our comfort zone so that we can grow and become better people, the people we are supposed to be. I know that to be true.

I love you all and hope you have a great week,
Hermana Maikoski

I think I attached pictures of me at a birthday party and at a place near our house with Christmas stuff. If you have more questions, let me know. Thanks!
