Scripture Power

Hey everyone!
There has been so much rain in Jarabacoa lately and we have been wearing cardigans. It is crazy because I never thought I would be cold in my entire mission and here I am freezing. So today we went to Santiago again. It was so much fun! Since my companion is ¨dying¨ ending her mission soon we can visit her areas. We got to meet other missionaries and eat at Wendys. I have never been so desperate for American food, haha. Anyway, we now have Elders in our area! It is so great, but sad because I had to leave my first district and my ¨dad¨ Elder Hefner left to San Francisco in the DR, but that day we had a great district meeting about our Christ-like attributes. We went around and talked about each of our Christ-like attributes. My district chose some attributes that I never thought they would have chosen. It touched my heart because I thought those were the attributes I didn´t have.

We have had great experiences this week, but there is a really funny one. This dude walks up to us, puts his face really close up to us and puts his cross necklace in our hands and says, ¨God bless you.¨ We were both trying not to laugh but it was great. Then Irkania had a really neat experience with her son. So he had a black toe and he had something in his eye. She said it was really bad and that she prayed all night for it to be healed and then the next day her son comes running into her house and says, ¨Mami, I am healed. A man with a long-sleeved shirt touched my feet and they were healed.¨ HOLY COW. It was so cool, but everything isn´t okay with Irkania... Her work won´t keep her because she has to take her child to work with her and the companion doesn´t want her to do that anymore... This is both good and bad because then she can come to church on Sunday and bad because she won´t have money to provide for her family. Prayers would be appreciated. Thank you! Another experience we had was with some members and 2 teenagers. These two teenagers are friends of President Buret´s son. Anyway, we talked about the Book of Mormon with them and I have never felt the Spirit so strong in my entire life. We gave them Book of Mormon characters-stories that related to them and then we each gave our testimony. I don´t remember what I said, but I felt the Spirit working through me.

I have learned so much on my mission. I have learned in order to really understand and ponder the scriptures, you need to kneel down and pray for the understanding and focus to read them. I have grown to love reading the Book of Mormon. There´s one story that I read this week that I would like to share. It is in Alma chapter 8 verses 8-32. It is about Alma the younger. Even though the area, Ammonihah, where Alma was teaching was difficult, he still worked hard with the Spirit and was constantly praying that their hearts would be changed or softened. They still weren't, so he left. He was sooo sad for the people and then an angel appeared to him. First the angel comforted him, then he told him to back and preach repentance unto the people. He returned ¨speedily¨ to Ammonihah. After fasting for many days for the people of Ammonihah, he came across Amulek. Amulek was ready and waiting for him because he had received a revelation that Alma was coming. Amulek fed him and then Alma took Amulek with him to preach repentance unto the people. They preached with the Spirit and power from God. When I read about this I thought about Jarabacoa and it´s situation. Some members and investigators have their hearts hardened. They aren´t firm in the church. I have been getting discouraged like Alma, but Heavenly Father has sent me hear to preach His gospel and He will place people into my life like he did with Alma. We need to be filled with the Holy Ghost and we will have the power to do anything that Heavenly Father asks of us. Also, we need to be in constant communication through prayer with our Heavenly Father so that we can have the Spirit and power with us. I think Alma the Younger is one of my favorite people ever. He is such a great example to all of us. I invite and encourage all of you to read the Book of Mormon and try to focus on what you are reading. I have seen the Book of Mormon and gospel change so many lives and I am so grateful to have the knowledge that I have. Also it would be awesome if you are a member to think of someone who needs the Atonement in their lives and share the gospel with them. I promise that there will be many blessings and lives will be changed. I love you all!!
