CCM (Missionary Training Center)

Hermana Evelyn

I love to see the temple (in the Dominican Republic)!

Hey everyone! Thank you for your love and support. Yes it is soooo HOT, but we do pretty much everything inside an air conditioned building. My pdays while in the CCM are on Thursday and I will be emailing around 1:30 pm (EST).

So today we got to go inside the Santo Domingo Temple. It was so beautiful and the spirit was so strong. I finally was able to watch the new film in the temple and it was great!

It has been so crazy and so hard. Not everyone speaks Spanish, but the teachers do and I can kinda understand them, but sometimes I can't. It can be so frustrating when I am teaching a lesson and I have no idea what to say, but Cydnee shared a scripture with me that really touched my heart. It is in Mosiah 24:12-16:

12 And Alma and his people did not raise their voices to the Lord their God, but did pour out their hearts to him; and he did know the thoughts of their hearts.
13 And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord came to them in their afflictions, saying: Lift up your heads and be of good comfort, for I know of the covenant which ye have made unto me; and I will covenant with my people and deliver them out of bondage.
14 And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions.
15 And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.
16 And it came to pass that so great was their faith and their patience that the voice of the Lord came unto them again, saying: Be of good comfort, for on the morrow I will deliver you out of bondage.

Alma's people poured out their hearts to God in their hearts because they were told they could not pray out loud. Heavenly heard their prayers and comforted them. He carried their burdens. He will strengthen us and make our burdens light. We need to have great faith and patience and submit cheerfully to the will of the Lord. He wants me here and wants me to teach His people. I just need to trust in Him. Even though it is hard and I am not confident in my Spanish I need to listen to the counsel in Ephesians 6:19- "Give me the words that I may open my mouth boldly."

So there are some girls that we met when we were exercising and they are from Puerto Rico. We walked around the temple with them and just talked to them. They were exactly what I needed on the day that I was struggling really bad (which is kinda every day haha). They were so sweet and nice. Heavenly Father places people or things in our lives to comfort us. Also one day I got so frustrated in a lesson and my "investigator" (teacher) shared a verse with me. It is in Joshua 1:5, 9. It says:

5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
It gave me so much strength.

I have so much to say and only have 50 minutes to say everything, so I am sorry if I cannot write back to you. I don't know which pictures I attached so if you have questions, just ask me about it later.

Love you all and talk to you next week,
Hermana Maikoski
****************************************************************************************So much has happened and I cannot remember everything that happened, but I have been writing in my journal. The showers are REALLY hot and REALLY functional in the CCM (which is fantastic). The food is delicious. We have rice and beans every meal, but they are made in different ways each time. We made something really good with rolls, oreos, peanut butter, and Nutella. It sounds gross, but it was good. We had pizza and ice cream one night and that was really fun too.
