Hermana Laguna

SURPRISE- Forget yourself and go to work.

Hey everyone!

Hope it has been a great week!

I am still in Nibaje and it will be my last area. I am training a new missionary from Mexico. Her name is Hermana Laguna - see pic below. She has already served for 3 months in Mexico, but I have to train her again. She loves the people and loves missionary work. She has no fear to talk to people. She has renewed my desire to work as hard as I can until I leave. She is the definition of ¨Forget yourself and go to work.¨ Hermana Shaw got to spend the night in my house this week and it was so cool to see how much she has changed and how great of a missionary she is.

It was a little stressful this week because we have lots of things to do here in Nibaje and I have to teach the area to my new comp before I leave. We had a training meeting and I got lost on the way there and made it late. I was so embarrassed because President Castillo called and was waiting on us to get there. When I got there, I saw the hand of God in my life. Hermana Maxfield was there and she is training too. She told me she had gotten lost too. So we weren´t the only ones lost. Later that day we had two great citas. We taught a lady that just opened right up to us. Then later that night, Clara, accepted a baptism date. She has told us that she feels something different with us and from the first moment she trusted us. She is reading the Book of Mormon daily and we can see the light and spirit coming into her life. We taught her about the plan of salvation and her mind was just blown. She was so happy to know that she could see her dead grandmother again. In the housoe of Cristina, we also found a man just wanting to change his life so much and we are gonna help him out. That day I had read this scripture in John 14 verse 27
¨Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.¨

This scripture helped me to calm down and to know that if I trust in the Lord I have no reason to fear or be troubled in my heart. He will be at my side helping em along the way.

Some thing else that I learned this week
2 Nephi 32 verse 9, ¨But behold, I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul.¨

This verse helped me in every moment of my week. If we pray unto the Father for help He will consecrate our performance not only for the welfare of our soulds but for the welfare of the souls of others. Prayers can give us so much strength.

President Castillo shared this scripture
Doctrine and Covenants 121 34-35

¨34 Behold, there are many called, but few are chosen. And why are they not chosen?
35 Because their hearts are set so much upon the things of this world, and aspire to the honors of men.¨

This helped me to focus on my mission this week and loose myself in the work. The things of the world distract us and when they distract us we can´t have the spirit with us. As we loose ourselves in the work of the Lord, we will be blessed with the spirit.

I close with the words of President Hinckley that say,

¨Truly we are engaged in a marvelous work and a wonder.… The God of heaven has brought to pass this latter day miracle, and what we have seen is but a foretaste of greater things yet to come. The work will be accomplished by humble men and women, young and old.

The work will succeed because it is the Lord who has promised: “And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.” (D&C 84:88.)

With our charge divinely given, with blessings divinely promised, let us go forward in faith. As we do so, the Lord will bless our efforts. Let us do our part in sharing the gospel with those around us, by example first and then by inspired precept.

The stone cut out of the mountains without hands will continue to roll forth until it has filled the whole earth. (See Dan. 2.) I give you my witness of this truth and of the truth that each of us can help in ways that are appropriate to our circumstances if we will seek our Father in Heaven’s guidance and inspiration. This is God’s work that we do, and with his blessing we shall not fail.¨

Have a great week. I love you all,

Hermana Maikoski
