Hurricane "Eye"

Hey everyone!

Hope you are all doing well! This week was an interesting one becuase we were looking and talking to everyone, but the results just didn´t show. Also Hurricane Maria came and we had to stay in the house for a day and on that day I had pink eye! I don´t know how I got it, but that was fun. You´ll see a kind of funny picture below of that haha. Updates on the damage from the hurricane in my area - some houses were filled with water and things were ruined but everyone here in Nibaje are safe.

Someone that we were going to go teach and could never find in her house died this week... It hit me really hard. I felt like I hadn´t done all that I could have done before she died. We didn´t even know she was sick, but she just suddenly died. We never know when we are going to leave this Earth so we need to be ready and do all that we can to be worthy to live in the presence of our Father in Heaven.

Yesterday I was just feeling so low. Feeling like all that I have been doing is SERVE, SERVE, SERVE - like missionaries do - and nothing was happening. They called me up to direct the music and I don´t know why that bothered me so much but it did, haha. I am human just like you guys, but I was reminded of a few things and in my studies that morning I found something that helped me out.

1.) When we are in the service of others, we are in the service of God. ¨And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.¨ Mosiah 2 verse 17

2.) Jesus served all of His life and listened and healed people. Why can´t I do it for this short time?
¨Verily, verily, I say unto you, this is my gospel; and ye know the things that ye must do in my church; for the works which ye have seen me do that shall ye also do; for that which ye have seen me do even that shall ye do;¨ 3 Nephi 27 verse 21

3.) I remembered the blessing that an Elder gave to me last transfer that said that I have to be strong for everyone else. Love this quote from President Hinckley that says,
¨I do not know why in His grand scheme one such as I would find a place. But having this mantle come upon me, I now rededicate whatever I have of strength or time or talent or life to the work of my Master in the service of my brethren and sisters. Again, I thank you … for your actions this day. The burden of my prayer is that I will be worthy... The Lord refined and polished each one prophets-, let him know discouragement and failure, let him experience illness and in some cases deep sorrow. All of this became part of a great refining process, and the effect of that process became beautifully evident in their lives.¨ I applied this to my life. I don´t know why Heavenly Father put me here in Nibaje, but I know that all that is happening here, is helping me to be refined into the person Heavenly Father wants me to be. Mosiah 27 verses 25-26 say, ¨And the Lord said unto me: Marvel not that all mankind, yea, men and women, all nations, kindreds, tongues and people, must be born again; yea, born of God, changed from their carnal and fallen state, to a state of righteousness, being redeemed of God, becoming his sons and daughters;
26 And thus they become new creatures; and unless they do this, they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God¨ We need to change ourselves to be the people that He wants us to be.
Also I loved what President Uchtdorf said in Women´s Conference about how the Book of Mormon can bring us happiness. He also talked about 3 sisters that had different attitudes about life. We can truly change anything if we change our attitudes about things. I learned that this week as they called me yesterday to do intercambios with some other Hermanas.

At first I was bothered, but after sitting for a while I was lifted up in happiness to be able to bless the lives of these hermanas for a day. We saw sooo many miracles yesterday. One miracle that happened last night was that I had no idea where to go, so I said a little prayer in my heart becuase it is hard to go contacting at night. Heavenly Father sent me to a less-active member´s house and she wasn´t there, but He told me to go down a street and talk to the people in the first house. Luckily they were outside cutting hair and so I asked him if he could cut my hair haha. It was a nice ice breaker and he introduced all his family to me and they were so happy to receive us. It was such a blessing. Can´t wait to see them tomorrow.

I also learned one reason why I am in Nibaje... So that all the Hermanas that come into my path and I can be an instrument in the hands of the Lord. As I listened to all of their problems last night and got to know them better, I just felt a HUGE love for them. I am so grateful for that opportunity that I have to be here and help other Hermanas.

It´s super long this week, but hope you could all get something out of it.

Have a great week,
Hermana Maikoski

The pics for this week are - we are all soaking wet from the rain that we received before the hurricane, us drinking hot chocolate, me with my pink eye, and us with our feet in the water.
