Hi all,
This email is comin to you late because of the bishop's wife's leftover turkey...i think. They had us over for dinner Sunday and something wasn't right. I just knew it as i was eating. So i woke up early Monday morning to see my dinner reappear. And then two more times after that. But other than that, this week was pretty swell!
We drove to Delphi (a town 25 mi away) to teach a referral from a member. Which was soo great! The only catch? She's in jail. But since we are considered clergy, they let the missionaries in! So we have been teaching Kristy, Donna's son's girlfriend who just happened to violate her parole. It was quite the experience. I totally felt like I was a character on Desperate Housewives talking across the table to this inmate dressed all in orange! In addition, we aren't allowed to bring anything in the room, so we have to teach the lessons without any materials! (until they get the staples taken out of the pamphlets, and the officer can bring her a B.O.M) But she is so ready to learn. She has time to read, and we can count on her making every appointment! So she really is the perfect investigator!
Thanksgiving was mediocre haha. I missed momma's cookin and grandma Na's egg rolls! There are just some holidays that are not supposed to be spent away from family! Let's just leave it at that.
We serve at the LUM food pantry every Wednesday and one of the ladies we serve with Juanita, is the sweetest thing. A few weeks back we were talking about shoes and how she needs to get rid of some, and we were the same size, so she gave me the cutest boots! Woop! (i'll send pics) It just made my day!
On Friday we were feeling really unmotivated so me and Sister Astle decided to say a prayer. We prayed for strength, motivation, and to find the elect. We didn't have a lot of plans either. But we both felt impressed to stop by a member referral Ellen. So we did. Her friend Lindsey opened the door so we asked if we could come in and share a message, she said yes! And then Ellen walked in the door, so we taught them both! And got them both on baptismal dates! It was amazing. They are both prepared and ready to receive the gospel. I am so grateful for promptings. They are thee best! So we are very excited for them:)
Our mission has been selected to participate in the "He is the Gift" initiative. I'm sure you've seen the video already, if not go to christmas.mormon.org and watch it! Our mission is tracking the progress on it and we are using it extensively in our finding strategies. It is really awesome and I encourage you all to share it!
Sadly, this is the last day I will spend with Sister Astle by my side:( I have truly come to love her and I appreciate her. We have grown really close, especially these last few weeks! President called us Saturday night and told us she would be transferring out, and I will be staying in West Laffy. I'm very nervous for a new companion, but I know learning takes place on the edge of our comfort zone! Everything happens for a reason.
Well I love you all v much. Take care, have an amazing week!
