Lauren's Institute for Education

Sister Caroline McKendrick

March! “Knowest thou the condescension of God?”

Hello Friends!
We had spring break this month, but since Lauren’s Institute is a year-round school we were still there serving. We did mostly respite throughout the week and the school brought in bounce houses and had different activities planned throughout the week. Lots of fun! Parents have the choice to bring their kids to school during spring break or not and as a result we only had 2 kids from our class so we combined with another class. The class we combined with was Ms. Julie’s class which is actually the one that my companion, Sister McKendrick, serves in. So i really enjoyed being able to see more of her throughout the day and to serve more of my friends.
A fun experience from that week was Sean actually enjoyed the bounce houses!!! He usually isn’t very sure about the bouncing and the feeling of being unstable while on his feet. We were eventually able to get him on his feet and actually down the slide!! It doesn’t sound like much, haha but it was a HUGE step for him and we were SO proud hahaha. And after he actually started to enjoy it :) None of the kids in my class are verbal but there is maybe one or more in Ms. Julie’s class that are verbal. Another activity that we did was the school hired a balloon artist. The kid in Julie’s class is Kegan and he asked to have the balloon laser gun and then i taught him how to say “pew pew” while holding the gun. It was the cutest thing EVER!! I love Kegan haha
This month was great. I’ve really gained a greater testimony of the pure love of Christ. I have a great friend who i had a little conversation with about the love of God. He shared with me, “In this portion of scriptures [1 Nephi 11], the Lord and Nephi have a deep conversation. It starts off with the Lord, asking Nephi what's the meaning of the tree his father saw? Nephi explains it's the love of God. Most joyous to the soul. Just imagine something like that. Wow, it's just amazing!” I shared with him the verses 16 and 17 from that chapter which says,
16 And he said unto me: Knowest thou the condescension of God?
17 And I said unto him: I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things.

I think that this is an awesome thing! Just like Nephi states, we don’t know the meaning of all things, but we know that God loves us NO MATTER WHAT, and that everything is part of his plan for us! As I’ve worked with these awesome kids and staff at Lauren’s for the last 14 months, I’ve come to see the deeper meaning of the pure love of Christ. A lot of these kids go through a lot and for some of their families, don’t know even how much longer they’ll be on this Earth. The greatest thing that I can do for them with my time as a missionary is to try my best to help them understand that they have people in the life and a Heavenly Father who loves the greatly.
I know that this church is true. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, i know this bc I’m able to feel of the Spirit testify to me every time i read it. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love us and are cheering us on as we grow and become more like them. I love the temples and that I was able to go on a small trip with my brothers this week to Tucson. I love my mission and being able to be in the leadership. I love feeling of the Spirit every day as i serve and I’m able to have the opportunity to wear a badge and to be a representative of Jesus Christ. I love the Gospel and I love all of you! I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Thank you for all of your support!
Sister Wearne
