Cavite Week 29 - Got Punted!
In loving memory...
This is the last week of our District Leader, Elder Chrighton. It will be sad to see him leave as we have been in the same district for all but one of my transfers, he has also been my district leader for half of my mission and is my "step father" in the mission. He has done good here in the time that I have known him and we will all miss him dearly. All I can say is that I hope his flight to Samoa is safe and that he enjoys being with his family. We will remember him always, as we always do when we have a death in the mission (someone going home is called dying). God be with him till we meet again, or as it said on his cake, “God be with ya'll till we meet again”.
In other news, our ward is focusing on LAs right now with their Visiting Teaching and they are trying to clean up their records. Because of this we have been able to find some LAs that are part member families. The interesting thing is that as we have visited them they have said that they want their families to become members as well because back when they were active they have seen the blessings. In some instances, the children have asked the parents "What religion are we?" and the parents are a bit confused because they are inactive but were baptized at one point in the Mormon church and they have a testimony still, they just don't go to church anymore. I have seen the reason that the people here don't go to church or they stop going to church, because they move and then don't know anyone in the new ward, or they attended and nobody would fellowship them. It all draws down to no friends and they are too shy to return because it has been so long. I know that we can get these members back, their families as well, to help them to strengthen their testimonies. Hopefully everyone who reads this sees the need to fellowship everyone because we are all family and people are shy. We need to realize once again that this church is for the people that are by no means perfect and that the church is the perfect thing, not us. We need to do everything we can to fellowship and welcome others into the welcoming arms of Christ and we can't do that if the people we are supposed to welcome are uncomfortable. Hopefully we can become better Disciples of Christ every day!
My spiritual experience this week, would have to be the experience of being punted. While that happens often not quite the way this one was. We started to PSP (pray, sing, pray, a contacting technique) a lady that was insisting that she was really busy, we managed to get through the prayer and we decided to just do a regular really quick PTP (Pray, Testify/Teach, Pray another contacting technique). We started and did a very short testimony of the Plan of Salvation and then gave her a pamphlet, Sister Pelikani was getting ready to have me give the closing prayer…and she walked away. Just turned around and walked away. It was really humbling, it let me see a glimpse of what other missionaries are seeing all around the world with doors getting slammed in their faces. I am glad that I had this experience because it let me see that there is a time for everyone and that is important.
My advice of the week. Beat the heat, drink water. Water keeps you alive. Drink as much as you can, BEWARE OF DEHYDRATION!
Until next time!
Love,
Sister Palmer
