We Survived!

Hello from Sarasota!

For everyone asking about tropical storm Colin, yes, we survived! And it was pretty uneventful haha! They had us stay in that night just in case and it was pretty windy but was about the same as those AZ monsoons. So, no worries!

This week has been a crazy blur of lessons and rainstorms and all other kinds of crazy missionary stuff! I can't believe I've already been in Sarasota for a month! Crazy!

We met so many people this week and a surprising amount of them want to learn more! It's been a hard few weeks with a lot of "no's" and slammed doors but we kept going and God sent a bunch of people our way this week who are super prepared! It's cool to see the miracles that come from diligence and perseverance! Also, we taught probably 6 lessons in Spanish which was crazy! God definitely knew what he was doing sending me to the Spanish branch before sending me down here. One of the men we met has been at church the past two weeks and it's so cool seeing some good come from my very very limited Spanish haha!

As far as funny stories go, nothing too hilarious happened this week. I did walk into ward council yesterday and Bishop shook my hand and said, "Sister Myers, you are speaking in Sacrament Meeting today!" I may have only had a minor heart attack haha! But it turns out he just wanted me to share my testimony and thoughts from the Stake Conference last weekend. So nothing too stressful haha!

We met a man this week who was kind of upset that we knocked on his door. He asked us "why are y'all going around trying to change people?" I have been pondering that all week. He made change sound so negative. But we ARE trying to change people. We want them to be happy. We want them to feel the love that God has for them. God's entire plan and purpose for us is to change and become better people and true disciples of Jesus Christ. So yes, we are out here trying to change people. And I have seen some truly amazing miracles come from that.
I was reading this morning in Alma 5 and he talks quite a bit about change:
"12 And according to his faith there was a mighty change wrought in his heart. Behold I say unto you that this is all true.
13 And behold, he preached the word unto your fathers, and a mighty change was also wrought in their hearts, and they humbled themselves and put their trust in the true and living God. And behold, they were faithful until the end; therefore they were saved.
14 And now behold, I ask of you, my brethren of the church, have ye spiritually been born of God? Have ye received his image in your countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hearts?"
Alma changed because of his faith and use of the Atonement. And he went on to change the lives of so many others. We can do the same thing as we change. This life is all about change. Which can be scary sometimes. But it really is how we learn and grow to become exactly who we need to be.

I love you all so much and hope you have a great week!
Watch out for gators!
Sister Myers
