Dear Hermana Angell,
I hope all is well and you have found productive missionary work to occupy your time. It sounds like you have some limitations in your current area. Without any doubt, I am confident you know, the Lord put you in your current area for a reason. Find the reasons and make the best of it even if is only for a short period of time. Hows your elderly investigator?
We survived without mom home. Time went fast. Kids were bored during the day at times so we went out to eat most nights. We also had a temple trip for youth baptisms on Tuesday. There were several first time youth and parents there so Bishop and I let everyone else do the key priesthood activities. Both your brother and sister were worthy once again to go. How thankful I am for that.
I was driving to the temple yesterday to do work from 8:30 to 12pm and then I drove from the temple to pick Mom up at 1pm. I was driving and listening to Oct 15 general conference talks. I was listening to Elder Hales talk titled “meeting the challenges of today’s world”. I felt impressed to print a copy of it and place it on your bed so you have it to seek counsel from when you get home. It is laying on your bed. It is all about making decisions in life after your mission. Great direction! In the talk he discussed sources for getting advice like peers, parents and priesthood leaders and Heavenly Father. I really liked this statement. “Be careful about taking advice from your peers. If you want more than you now have, reach up, not across.” This apparently was a quote from Elder Packer. What wonderful advice!
I was sitting in the celestial room, by myself without mom because her flight had not landed yet, and I asked Heavenly Father to speak to me and provide me counsel through the scriptures. I felt impressed to open up the scriptures and start reading at Alma 33 vs. 4. Read sometime tonight versus 4-11. It was a beautiful answer to my plea and discusses listening to my prayers. Verse 8 touched my heart because it made me think of you and how he has answered your prayers as my child so many times. It reads:
“Yea, thou art merciful unto thy children when they cry unto thee, to be heard of thee and not of men, and thou wilt hear them.”
You have learned yourself how to “reach up”. I can tell you have a testimony of prayer and I am proud of you for gaining that testimony - don't ever forget the lessons you have learned about prayer.
When will you get to go to the temple again? I hope you get to do the initiatory cards I sent you. Keep this in mind, I was reminded this when do some recently. The officiator is acting as Christ, not a priesthood leader, who is doing the washing and anointings. Listen to the statement of authority in the ordinances. It is said as if Christ was performing the ordinances himself.
Have a great birthday this week Mariah. Sounds like you found you a skirt or two. I am so glad you were born to my home. We will party next year for your 21st. Enjoy the week. I put both you and your companion’s name on the prayer role at the temple this week.
Take care. I love you.
