I can do it!
It's been a pretty weird week... One of the sisters in our zone had to go home for medical treatment, so her companion joined us, and we're now a trio covering both areas. We're still not really sure how to do that, so the last few days have been confusing. On the plus side, we get twice as many meal appointments because we're in both branches now.
Our new companion's name is Sister Auditor. She's from the Philippines and she's super tiny and super awesome. She's only been out a transfer longer than me, so we were a little apprehensive on Friday when we spent the day without our trainer, who had leadership training. But all day long, even when we had no idea what we were doing, her motto was "I can do it!". We were running late to an appointment, so I was speed walking back to the car... unfortunately, my speed walking was a full out sprint for her, but every time I slowed down she'd run past me yelling "I can do it!". Then on Saturday was her first time riding her bike in the city with us... She'd never learned how to ride a bike until coming on her mission and is still pretty shaky. I rode in front and Sister Saoloto rode behind her to make sure she was ok, and every now and then I'd hear a crash from behind me, followed immediately by an "I can do it!", and by the time I'd turned around Sister Auditor would be right back up again. Now every time I feel even a little discouraged, the little Sister Auditor voice in my head rebukes me with an "I can do it!", and I have to admit that I have nothing to complain about.
Yesterday one of our friends that we're teaching, Melissa, came to church with us. I was sitting next to her during sacrament meeting, and I was surprised when she pulled out her phone after singing one of the hymns and sent a snapchat of the hymn to a friend. Then she whispered to me "What a beautiful song! I love that song!". I had to actually go back and look the hymn up again, because I hadn't been paying attention at all. But I'm glad Melissa had been paying attention, because it was really something I needed:
"Be thou humble in thy weakness, and the Lord thy God shall lead thee,Shall lead thee by the hand and give thee answer to thy prayers.Be thou humble in thy pleading, and the Lord thy God shall bless thee,Shall bless thee with a sweet and calm assurance that he cares."
"Be thou humble in thy calling, and the Lord thy God shall teach theeTo serve his children gladly with a pure and gentle love.Be thou humble in thy longing, and the Lord thy God shall take thee,Shall take thee home at last to ever dwell with him above."
It was a tender mercy for Melissa to feel the spirit during that meeting, and it was really a tender mercy for me to find answers and comfort from a completely unexpected source.
I hope you all have a wonderful week... whatever is going on in your life right now, "You can do it!"
