This week I passed my 13 month mark. My companion who has been out for 2 months likes to remind me that I am an 'old' missionary now, especially when members start talking about new movies and I am completely lost. Haha! But let me tell you, it's been the best 13 months ever. It's been hard and it's been an absolute blessing to be here. I love it! :D
Some events and thoughts from the week...
People are nicer when there is food involved. Last Pday we took some time to make cookies and that evening we went to take them to people, and nearly everyone answered their door - that doesn't normally happen! So that was great! And we gave invitations to the ward's Corn Bust coming up next week, and there was one door that we thought was a member's home of someone we hadn't met but it turns out they weren't members. But they gladly took the cookies and the invitation and said they would be happy to chat sometimes about some questions they have about our church.
One of the families that we get to visit each week, their daughter got her mission call to the Utah Ogden mission! I'm so stoked for her, she is literally going to be one of the best missionaries ever. So exciting!
This last Thursday evening, we were awoken by 4 slow beeps from the carbon monoxide detector at about 2:50 a.m. We woke up, nothing seemed to be wrong, but we were a little worried. I heard 4 beeps and Sister Osai only heard 3... we said a prayer asking God if we were fine (we had heard it beep once before on a Sunday afternoon but nothing happened so we ignored it) or if we should call our housing coordinators. I really hoped the answer would be that we were fine, because I really didn't want to call them at 3 a.m. haha. But nope, we both felt that we should call them, and then the carbon monoxide detector went off again... so we call them, and they came straight over. We had opened all our windows and sat on our porch area outside the door. They brought their own to test, and turns out we were just fine - our carbon monoxide detector just had a low battery! *phew* haha.
Friday was a record breaking day for Lethbridge - according to our car, it reached 42 degrees!! (I was driving when it said 42, and it was only there for a few minutes before going back to 41... so I got a picture of that instead). That is too hot haha. Before, the record in Lethbridge was 37 degrees! So it's been a hot week, and our apartment doesn't have AC... but the church does ;) so at least we have somewhere to go when we need to cool off.
There were some other fun things that happened this week but I'm starting to run short on time so I will just say, I love you all! I know this is God's church and I am grateful to be a representative of my Savior Jesus Christ! God has been teaching me a lot this transfer. I am so grateful to have Him to rely on because I don't know how else I or any missionary could do this work without Him. We simply couldn't. Find out this week how you feel the Spirit and don't forget what it feels like to you. Have a beautiful week everyone!
