Weekly Email #8
Hola Amigos y Familia,
How has your week been? Anyone see miracles happen?
So here is my week:
Monday: No hicimos nada, solamente descansamos y tuvimos una cita con nuevos investigadores Cecilia y Miguel. Celcilia has progressed so much, she wants to get baptised, but Miguel doesn't want her to change religions. They are both crentes en la religion catholica, but Miguel doesn't want to change at all. However, Celcilia still wants to meet with us and want to learn more. We are trying to find a way to desafair los desafios de Miguel because when we first met him, he was so excited about the Plan of Salvation. We had cambios in our zone today and it was really sad to see Hermana Solorio go, but she completed her mission. There are also more Americans in the Zone, there are now 6.
Tuesday: It was another lento day, we taught Augustine about Auyno and how it can help with receiving answers. Later in the week, we tried to meet with him again, but he kept canceling. So we decided to drop him, because he just was'nt progressing. His one big desafio es yendo a la capilla. He doesn't want to go and it's hard to let an investigator go, but our mission president this week sent an email saying that we need to find and focus on the people who are prepared to be baptised. It's a lot of work here in Nealtican, but it is possible to find those people who have actual interest in learning about the gospel.
Wednesday: We had a full day of citas. We met again with a lady named Euphemia. She is in her late 50s and is catholic, but is receptive to our messages. We invited her to be baptised, but she said no because she is already baptised and she told us that if she were to be baptised again, she would be pecando. We told her that being baptised a second time The Right Way is not a sin and we have to follow the example of Jesucristo y de su bautizmo. She told us that she will pray and think about it. She has two daughters and we are hoping to teach them soon. Later in the day, we met with Emmanuel, he has been our investigator for a few weeks now, and likes the messages we share and wants to learn more, but he doesn't want to complete his compromisos. He is only 17 years old and maybe he just doesn't see the importance of completing his compromisos. We think it's because of his grandparents to. His grandfather always goes to El Monte to work and Emmanuel always has to go with him. His grandmother is not a big fan of Mormons, although she is a member. But we are going to keep on working with him because he likes the capilla.
Thursday: We did an Ayuno and it was a day fun of miracles. I think this Ayuno helped me understand to always look for the small milagros everyday. We ended up talking with three new people that day. Miguel (another one) is the husband a menos activa Byanka. He has so many questions about the church and wants to know facts of everything, but he does seem to have a sincere interest. We talked about the Plan of Salvacion and he really liked what he heard. The only thing with him is that he works with in Veracruz on the weekends and "doesn't have time to go to church on Sunday". We also meet with Olivia y Norma. We contacted Olivia a few days ago and at first she didn't seem receptive, but we shared L2 with her and she was really happy to learn that we could be with our families forever if we take the steps to make it happen. With Norma, we talked about Fe and how it is an important step in obtaining a testimony of the Evangelio de Jesucristo. Her boss is a member of our church, and seems to have interest but like many here in Nealtican, she can't go to church on Sunday because of "work."
Friday: Another day of exito. We meet with Liliana. She recently moved to Nealtican, and in Puebla she used to go to the capilla. However, she doesn't want to go because her husband is catholic and she doesn't want to offend them. She really likes the capilla and wants to learn more. However, she has so many questions about why we are here on earth and why Women get to have babies. She wants to find answers to some questions that not even we can answer and the only person that could answer them is Dios. But, the cita with her was overall muy bueno. Also, I FINALLY RECIEVED MY PACKAGE! my parents have been telling me all these stories about the package and I'm just happy that it arrived.
Saturday: Our Zone decided to do an Ayuno to lograr nuestra metas como Zona for this month. It was really nice to do another ayuno. It was another slow day and not many lessons taught, but we were busy trying to contact referencias that we received, but not much luck. It seems that everyone here in Nealtican decides to leave and do their shopping this day. But, we didn't feel desaminada during this time, so the spirit was still strong.
Sunday: Church was nice. An investigador came to church (She lives in Puebla, but was visiting her suegras family in Nealtican) and I taught my first Principos del Evangelio. It felt just like a lesson. I can't believe that before my mission I was so nervous to teach that class, and now it's so much fun. We also ate Hot Dogs for the comida with a member. Her name is Maria and guess what, she is just like Me: Mexican and Salvadoran. Her dad is from Sonsonate. Also, I found out that a member in one of the wards that I'm in knows how to make PUPUSAS!!!! So, on Thursday, I'm eating PUPUSAS!!!!! I'm so excited!! I miss Salvadoran food so much.
Monday: We are going to have our Zone activity today and play some Volleyball and eat some Tacos.
Spiritual Thought: While visiting an inactive family, we talked about the importance of reading the scriptures. He said that it's hard to read them because of long days and being really tired, but something that I've learned on the mission is that reading the scriptures is a way for us to strength our testimonies and complete this meta that Dios has for us to live en el mundo Celestial con nuestras familias, Dios, y Su Hijo Jesucristo para la eternidad. We have to remember that if we don't read everyday, it's a way for Satanas to win. He thinks it's okay to not read our scriptures, but we were given these libros sagrados por una razon. It's important to start with a prayer before we read because we will receive answers to our questions through reading. There is this study that says that if you put into practice something for three weeks it becomes a habit, so we should all develop and maintain that habit to help us grow closer to our Padre Celestial y Su Hijo Jesucristo.
I encourage you all to keep looking for these small miracles everyday. Each miracle is from God and we should be happy with them because He loves each and every one of us and wants the best for us.
Love, Hermana Escobar
