You're My Favorite Diabetic Missionary :)
Hey Mom!
Eagar this week sounds like it was a blast! Hahaha no way! We played 9 square when I first got to Minot, and I was going to bring it home to show you!!! We will have to play when I get home :) And whack a cracker as well because that sounds hilarious. I'm a little jealous that you got to go out to the lake, that's definitely one thing I miss is swimming! But it's SUPER humid here so maybe you can count that. I mean we are soaking wet all the time so that counts right?? Hahaha😂
This week has been a little bit crazy and I don't even know where to start! Sister Stout and I are doing a LOT of finding, so we are walking around a ton. Which is awesome! But also super exhausting because it is so hot and humid here. This week we decided to get a little creative with our tracting approaches and we took my ukulele and sang, "I am a Child of God" to people on their porch step. We got a few potential investigators from it which is super exciting! And at least the other people were smiling when we left. It was crazy how many people didn't want to hear our song, but I think it was because they saw we were missionaries. Oh well. It was a super cool experience to sing and then testify that we truly are children of a loving Heavenly Father and because He loves us He shares His gospel with us.
On Tuesday, us and a few of the elders went to reshingle someone's roof. That was an interesting experience as well. But I have to say it looks pretty good for never having done shingles before haha! Don't worry I'm still terrified of heights but it all worked out :)
Wednesday was SO FUN but also a little sad. The 4th of July is literally my favorite holiday of the whole entire year and I didn't even get to watch any fireworks... President Howell pushed back our curfew to 10 pm so we could be out later, but it doesn't even start getting dark here until 11:30 pm so we couldn't stay and watch it. BUT that's okay! Because that morning we had a community pancake breakfast at the stake center and flag ceremony which was amazing. Then, we met President and Sister Howell and their daughter, Liberty! Then we went to the Nash's house for a party and it was so much fun! I love being out in the middle of nowhere and just seeing all of that land!
We finally got back into Ward Council for the first time in 3 months and it was so great! We are really starting to progress in the member missionary work area and we are excited to see what is to come!
In our member lessons this week we have been asking them to write down their testimony of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ and then to pray specifically about who needs to hear their testimony from them. So I just want to take a minute to share my testimony.
I am so grateful for the knowledge that I have of a loving Heavenly Father who has given me so many blessings. The greatest of which is the sacrifice of His only begotten son, Jesus Christ. I know that because God loves us and wants us to return back home to Him, He has given us this gospel to help us along the path of life. This 14 year old boy had a question and so he knelt in a grove of trees to pray about it. He shares his experience and I want to share it with you. He says, "I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name, and said pointing to the other, 'This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him.'"One of my favorite truths from the message of the Restoration is that God knows us by name. The first words spoken in this dispensation were, "Joseph". When we are truly seeking, He will answer our prayers. I am grateful that we have the fullness of the gospel on the earth so that we can have the direction we need.
I love you and hope you make it a great week!
Love,
Sister Mortensen
P.S. Here are some of my favorite things some primary kids said to me on Sunday.
I went to say the closing prayer in sacrament meeting and Jamay said, "WOW. That is the cutest Sister Missionary."
We went to primary to challenge all the kids to invite their friends to Family Home Evening and when I was at the front, Kayson said to his teacher, "That's MY missionary"
Tyler: "Sister Mortensen. You are my favorite diabetic missionary" haha just thought I'd share! Love you!
