Everything has been flying by! It's already time for transfers! Sister Alfaro is leaving to another area and I'm staying in Brownsville! I'm super excited to stay and keep working in the area! My new companion is Sister Barnett and I'll meet her tomorrow :)
Some highlights of the week:
1. We went on exchanges and found these really amazing teenagers that we taught the restoration to. They loved it and are excited to come to church!
2. One of the pictures is us helping Ms. Limón set up her tienda. She has a trailer and is beginning her own business out of her home selling Mexican candy and soon she'll start selling food and Mexican deserts like pan dulce y flan :)
3. We did some service at a place called Good Neighbors Settlement House, where immigrants come and stay the night to shower, eat, receive shots, a change of clothes, and then they're shipped to different parts of the country the next day.
4. Yesterday we were out knocking doors and met a really sweet lady that's 95 years old!!! She lives in a tiny tiny tiny trailer, but told us how grateful she is for all she has!
I'm so sad to see Sister Alfaro go! I think the biggest thing I've learned from her is the importance of appreciating all the blessings God is giving us. Yesterday we were talking, and I asked her how she is so happy all the time. She said she really started discovering true happiness as she began reading the book of Mormon when she was 10 years old and started looking at life in a more spiritual context with an eternal perspective.
She pointed to a tree and asked me "what do you see?"
I responded by saying, "a beautiful tree?"
She looked at me and sighed, and said, "I see God's love for us. I see the work and creativity He put into each of its branches and leaves, just for us. We're special. He loves us. That makes me happy."
My invitation to everyone who reads this (and to myself!) is to appreciate every little blessing our Heavenly Father has given us. He really does know us and love us. And that makes me happy :)
