Amigos y familia,
Wow it's been an amazing week! I feel bad because emails don't do justice to the amazing experiences of the mission. I wish everyone could see how cool Texas is and meet the amazing people here (and also some of the crazy people haha).
Presidente y Hermana Torres are amazing! We are so blessed here to have such amazing guidance. They're super young- in their late 30s/early 40s. They're really great people.
It was really triste saying goodbye to my district in the CCM and to hermana Otteson, but the missionaries here are stellar! Hermana Paskett is my trainer and she is doing a fantastic job. She's from Alpine Utah too! We actually went to the same high school, she's just a grade older than me. I admire her selflessness and maturity and am already learning so much from her.
I love the mission because we get to spend all day focusing on others. We're serving in Weslaco right now, and the ward is English speaking. Kind of a bummer, but we're still working really hard on Spanish and people here mix Spanish and English like crazy! It's fun to try and follow between English and Spanish. Mostly I pray really hard when we meet someone who knows zero English.
We're white washing this area, which means that sister Paskett has never served here before. We have tons of work to do because we don't know the area and we have to try and get to know everyone here! The ward is amazing, but there are a ton of inactive people. We have a really amazing investigator that the other sisters have been working with for a while. Her name is Celina and she knows the church is true and wants to be baptized. The only problem is her boyfriend doesn't want to get married. They have 2 children together and a house, and have been together for 9 years. We're trying to help Celina set goals to bring her closer to marriage and baptism. She wants to be married so badly, so hopefully he softens his heart.
There has been a lot of rejection, but we are always led to people who need to hear the message. I know that God loves the people here, and we're working our hardest to help them find joy and come closer to Christ.
One other cool thing is we wear slacks here every day! Skirts aren't allowed except for at church because of the mosquitos. I love the gospel, my companion, and the countless mosquito bites I have!
Dios nos ama!
