Service and Love

This is the last week of the transfer! By the time I hit my next pday I will be in my 3rd to last transfer. This week had a few fun surprises including a big wind storm blowing things all around.

This week was fast Sunday and the mission fasted for more obedience and people to teach. That is always what we are striving for. There are lots of people on square and we are all searching for those that are seeking enlightenment out of their lives. It's about being unified in our whole mission and being devoted to God and his work. As we are devoted to everything he wants us to do we can accomplish great things. This Sunday was also our last Come Follow Me as a District. Sister Clayson will be finishing her mission this Saturday and we are all sad to see her go. She served valiantly to the end in Japan and then here at Temple Square. We are going to miss her, but she will do a lot of good in the world as she returns home. The rest of our district will still be here, but Sister Anderson (her companion) will likely be in another zone for the last few days of the transfer just out of convenience. It was an honor to be able to serve alongside sisters who can teach so powerfully and feel the spirit so strongly.

Tuesday was the big excitement about the wind storm. We had our usual meeting at 7:30 in the morning over zoom and found out that the storm had caused some damages to the flora around Temple Square. The winds were still at strong speeds and we were asked to remain inside out of safety reasons. During this time our power went out in the apartment. Thousands of homes in the area lost power, some are still trying to get their power back. Ours came back late in the evening, and we are grateful to have our power back now. When it was finally deemed safe enough to go outside we could see the destruction as many large trees had been pushed over by the wind. Even some of the large trees around Temple Square had fallen. It was sad to see such majestic trees come down, but they will allow new growth in their place.

The gardeners worked extra hard to clean up the messes, but it was a challenge. It was decided that the sisters would be able to lend some helping hands for a few hours this morning. We put on our work clothes and got to work. I'm sure the work went faster with over 100 extra pairs of hands. My group worked on Historic Temple Square cleaning the small branches and other groups worked on the other surrounding grounds to get the work done. This is the place we love the most and we want to keep it as beautiful as possible. I love service and how much joy it can bring to our lives everyday. I can't fix the world, or most things, but I can do my part to make the world a little bit brighter and happier for those around me.

That is about it for this week, so not that many surprises actually, but we are still able to have a lot of fun in the remainder of this transfer. We'll have to wait and see when my next email might be if my pday ends up changing. I'm excited for the future though. Have a great week everyone!
