Nagasaki, Japan

Sister Macfarlane

Hello from Nagasaki! - Week 11

This week was great! Lots of things happened. Also it's starting to get really hot and humid. But that's okay because I'd rather it be hot than cold. Last P-day we went and saw the main Shinto Shrine here in Nagasaki. It's called Suwa shrine and every year they have a big festival apparently on my birthday (Oct. 7) where they have a huge dragon. Anyways, it was so cool, so that's what most of my pictures are of.
This week we got to visit a lot of members which was way fun. All 6 missionaries here went to our branch president's house and we biked through the mountains to get there and we must have looked so weird, all 6 white people in their Sunday best with white helmets on going down the highway. We were the elite bike squad, I just gotta say. Anyways, me and Macfarlane しまい went to a less-active named Maiguma Shimai and she's like our Japanese grandma. We gardened with her because she loves her garden but she can't really take care of it anymore so we helped her. She had us do some heavy labor though, like chopping down a tree and chopping it up and then pulling weeds and stuff. While we were there it started to rain so all these bugs came out and I got like a million mosquito bites! Lol, but it was so much fun! Maiguma-shimai is literally the cutest Japanese grandma of all time. She felt so bad but was so grateful so after we went inside, she made lunch for us and we just sat and talked for a long time. We could tell how much our service to her was helping her out though. She was so so happy afterwards and she loves to just sit and talk to us. She has started to come back to church and I think part of it is all the service that we give her and our little gospel messages that we give her. "When ye are in the service of your fellow being, you are only in the service of your God"
Anyways, we also went to Sasebo this week to do junkai (splits)! We went on exchanges and I spent the whole day with Yoza-shimai who's from Okinawa! It was so fun and we saw so many miracles. Last time we did exchanges one of the people we found ended up being a great investigator for the sisters there and has a baptismal date! And this week me and Yoza-shimai found 2 people who wanted us to come back so it was fantastic! I love Junkai's and missionary work is just THE BEST!
Anyways, overall a great week! Love you all so much!
