Chikushino, Fukuoka, Japan

Sister Armstrong

Hello from Fukuoka! - Week 12

Happy Easter!! Hello from Spring in Japan! We got our transfer calls this week and me and Sister Armstrong are both staying here in Chikushino! I'm so happy because I love Sister Armstrong and Chikushino so I'm excited for one more transfer!
The Sakura (Cherry Blossoms) have been so pretty this past week! Everyday has been perfectly warm and we are enjoying it now before the heat of the summer comes.
This week we met with a less active called Fukui shimai. We decided to do a role-play lesson with her where she acts as the investigator and we teach her like we're teaching a discussion. She loved the idea and we taught her about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was like the first role-play lesson that she's ever done and it ended up being a lesson that helped her because she had a lot of questions on her mind about life and things. She asked how exactly God can help her and she had a lot of questions and doesn't know where to turn for answers. We shared with her James 1:5 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him" and Alma 22:16 "... If thou desirest this thing, if thou wilt bow down before God, yea, if thou wilt repent of all thy sins, and will bow down before God, and call on his name in faith, believing that ye shall receive, then shalt thou receive the hope which thou desirest." We taught her that how if we have faith and ask God with real intent, He will answer our prayers and give us the revelation that we need. It's according to our faith, but God does hears and answers every single prayer. It was just a really great lesson and she asked us to come back every week because she wants to "become an investigator again!"
Anyways, for a funny story, one door we knocked on this week was this one young couple and at first all we could see was the wife who stood at the door and talked to for a second and then her husband came in and this guy was super ripped very big muscular guy and he was wearing a tank top like body builder. And better yet, in his arms he was carrying a small kitten. Literally the funniest thing ever to see this huge body builder guy holding a small kitten and looking at us with this very serious face. Literally me and my companion died laughing! But they were actually really nice and we gave them a Book of Mormon too!
We met with our investigator Komine again this week. We talked to her about the Restoration and she had so many good questions. She said that she definitely believes in God and we are excited for her progression! She also gave us a tour of her cute little Japanese home and showed us some of her own flower arrangements too. I felt like I was in ancient Japan.
For Easter we went over to the Ooga family's house and they did a little easter egg hunt for us with eggs that had "arigato" (thanks!) written on them. So cute!!
Anyways, recently in my studies I have been studying a lot about faith and what it is exactly. I have come to realize that we don't have to have a perfect knowledge on things like the Book of Mormon or the prophets. Sometimes all we can do is try to believe. But faith is like a seed and when we work hard and keep doing the things that build and exercise our faith then our faith will grow. It's comforting to know that it's okay if we sometimes have doubts or questions, we just have to keep trying every day and keep trying to exercise faith in the Savior. I'm grateful every day here on my mission to exercise my faith to help build the faith of others.
