Transfer calls came a little earlier than usual this morning via phone call from Welch Kaicho (just after Rowe Shimai and I finished making our goals for our second and better transfer). the verdict- I`m out of Higashi Osaka! NO! I`m headed to a mountain-encased area called Hashimoto, where I will be serving with Nakamura Shimai (a Nihonjin!) as a Sister Training Leader.
Lots of mixed feelings came with that phone call- I love Higashi Osaka, and I LOVE Rowe Shimai! I thought for sure I would get to finish training her this next transfer. But I guess i`ve taught her all I could, and now it`s time for her to learn well from her new Japanese companion. I wish I could have gotten to know this ward a little bit better, and I am so sad to leave the amazing people I have had the chance to spend time with these past three months. Time goes by so fast! But I know that whatever the Lord has planned for the people in Hashimoto is something great, and i`m excited to be a part of it.
Anyways- what miracles did we see the last week of this transfer?
- our cute Chinese friend said her first prayer for the first time this week. It was in Chinese, so I didn`t understand a word! But it was so special, and we all felt God`s love. She has been praying every day since. :)
- As we were walking out of a train station to get to another lesson, we ran into a girl we had met a few weeks ago. we were able to talk to her a little bit more, and teach her about her Heavenly Father. She was so happy to see us again, and she wants to start studying with us.
- I lost my companion on a train for the second time this transfer (I`m terrible, I know) but we were safely reunited! Miracle.
-We met for the first time with a lady from our Ekaiwa class. We talked about her religious background, and she explained that because there are so many different ideas about God and religion, she hadn`t really decided which one was correct. When we taught her about God as our Loving Heavenly Father, who created us and loves us, she thought it sounded really good. She told us `I may not believe yet, but I want to!`.. We told her that that`s all she needs!
In the Book of Mormon, there`s a true principle taught in Alma 32 that I have seen a LOT on my mission.
26 Now, as I said concerning faith—that it was not a perfect knowledge—even so it is with my words. Ye cannot know of their surety at first, unto perfection, any more than faith is a perfect knowledge.
27 But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.
42 And because of your diligence and your faith and your patience with the word in nourishing it, that it may take root in you, behold, by and by ye shall pluck the fruit thereof, which is most precious, which is sweet above all that is sweet, and which is white above all that is white, yea, and pure above all that is pure; and ye shall feast upon this fruit even until ye are filled, that ye hunger not, neither shall ye thirst.
... In Japan, about 1% (or so I hear) of the population has a Christian background. For most people, when they learn about God as a being with a body and feelings and all power and knowledge- it is something they`ve never thought about before! But even though it is a first, if they have only a desire to believe, and if they act on our words and the things that we invite them to do, they can know for themselves that the message we are sharing is true. I`ve seen it work over and over again, and it is amazing to see the changes that come into people's lives when they experiment with that tiny particle of faith! I promise that that principle works for all, no matter who they are. God loves his children, and if they reach out to Him, He will answer.:)
Life is good minasan! This next transfer will be one of building- building my leg muscles bc hills for days, building my Japanese b/c Japanese companion, and building up all of the sisters I`ll be privileged to work with :) Can`t wait.
