Last week was a bit crazy- My mom (trainer) died (went home), so there was a lot of packing and last minute things to do, but it all worked out:) She made it, and I met my new companion- Hatch Shimai! She`s from utah, she`s a fifth transfer missionary (so she`s been in japan for about 5 months) and she`s so friendly and happy. I can tell we`re going to have a good transfer.:) We`re both pretty young missionaries, and the rumor is when you put two young missionaries together, miracles happen- I believe it! (mostly because the fact that we can navigate our way around Japan is a miracle in and of itself haha.) But we`ve had a fun few days so far, and it`ll only get better from here on out!
This week was mostly a finding week- we tried to go streeting at the eki (train station) but because we live in kurayoshi, normal eki dendo doesn`t really work. So, we`ve done a lot of housing these past few days! I`ve never really had much success with housing before, but for some reason, me and hatch shimai were able to teach 7 lessons on the spot while housing in these past 3 days! I think it`s a mixture of God taking care of us, and people being too polite to tell two american girls who are trying really hard to speak really slow, incorrect Japanese to go away. But whatever it is, i`ll take it! Anytime I get to tell people that God is their loving heavenly father and that Jesus Christ created a way for us to be happy in this life and the next, i will gladly do so:) (no matter how many mistakes I make and how long it takes!) I cant wait to see what other miracles this next week brings!
Although- we started talking to an old lady walking down the street, and when we started walking with her she pointed backwards and said "achinasai!" which is command form, meaning "go over there (go away)". It was pretty funny. But other than that, everyone is really nice:) Japan is the best.
Also, we had the opportunity to watch general conference, and it was so great. Conference is the bestttttt. I love hearing the words of prophets and apostles, and sometimes when I say I love church stuff, it`s more of a new-found love through being a missionary, but i`ve always loved general conference. There`s something special about hearing Christ`s ordained apostles and leaders give counsel just for our day. I have to admit, i`m always partial to Elder Holland`s talks; if I could speak with the power and conviction he has! I love learning about the atonement of Jesus Christ, and I loved this quote especially:
"Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, suffered, died, and rose from death in order that He could, like lightning in a summer storm, grasp us as we fall, hold us with His might, and through our obedience to His commandments, lift us to eternal life... So today we celebrate the gift of victory over every fall we have ever experienced, every sorrow we have ever known, every discouragement we have ever had, every fear we have ever faced—to say nothing of our resurrection from death and forgiveness for our sins."
This is the message I love to share with people. Everything hard in your life can be made right. Everything unfair becomes okay. Life has meaning. Death is not the end. There is always hope- all because of Jesus Christ and His atonement. So many people don`t know that! And if there`s one person here in Kurayoshi who`s life I can change with that knowledge, I`m going to work as hard as I can to find them.
Always, thank you for the prayers and support:) Remember to take Elder Nelson`s challenge, and apply what you learned from conference! You`ll be happier, promise!
Sorry, you all get more Sakura Pictures because beautiful. This place is unreal.
