Wow this week has flown by! It always amazes me how fast the days go by. I feel like I send and email and then suddenly I am writing another one!
So this week we traveled for about 3-4 hours to go to a 2-3 hour return and report. It was crazy how short it was! But it was a lot of fun and I learned a lot in those few hours. President Vest is amazing and there is no doubt in my mind that he was called to be our mission president for a reason. I have learned so much from him already and I love it! I also got to see Sister Rawlinson again :) It is crazy to think that we haven't been companions for almost 9 months already! Again time sure does fly.
Well I have heard that is very dry over in Utah with lots of fires. Its basically the opposite up here in New York. We have been receiving a lot of rain and when it rains here it down pours for a good couple hours, creates rivers in the road, and then clears up and looks like it never even rained. I have no idea how the weather does that and yet it always does! I am very grateful for my rain boots. I wouldn't survive without them! Two of our recent converts, Art and Betty, were trying to have a sale this week but it rained on them! You guys just need to take some of our rain because we are getting too much of it! But people tell me this summer has been a "dry" one. So I guess its all about your perspective huh?
This week we had one of our investigators pray for the first time. That is a goal we have had basically since we arrived here in Cortland. It was so sincere and just beautiful to hear. It is one of my favorite things to hear is someones first truly sincere prayer. You don't hear too many of those and it brings tears to your eyes when you do. I love the power of prayer in our lives and teaching people about it!
Other than that nothing too exciting happened this week but that's alright because it is a new week with lots of adventures coming! We were listening to a talk by Hank Smith this week in the car called Scripture Power. He shared a thought I would love to share with you. First, are we looking for the principles within the book of Mormon or are we just reading the stories? There is more to reading the book of Mormon if we truly want to feel its spirit. We must read it, find the golden principles within the lines and then apply them to our lives to truly be changed. He also shared the scripture Mosiah 18:30 on page 183. It is one I invite all of you to read this week and ponder. It is talk about Alma baptizing at the water of Mormon. Now in this verse it says Mormon 6 times. Why is that? I would like to suggest that it is not because Mormon really liked his name so he wrote a ton. It is because he wanted us to think of the place, not him. He wanted us to realize that the place of Mormon was a special place where those people came to know their Redeemer. I would now like to share Hank Smiths thought, he believes that the Book of Mormon is not named after the author. It is named after a place. The place of Mormon. Why you may ask? Because Mormon wanted us to remember the place of Mormon where those people came to know their Savior and realize that the Book of Mormon is the place where we can come to know our Savior. It can be beautiful to our eyes as we come to know our Redeemer through reading, finding the hidden messages unique for us and applying them to our lives. I have come to know the truth of truly studying the Book of Mormon. I can say that I have come to know my Redeemer though the Book of Mormons pages. I love it and cherish it. And it will always be beautiful to me because I have come and continue to come to know my Savior through its pages. I love the Book of Mormon and my prayer is that all of you come to know your Redeemer through studying the Book of Mormon. It truly contains the fullness of his gospel.
I love you all! Have a great week!
