Week 3: It's nice, but it's ice

Hey Everybody!

This week be crazy - but in a good way. Our Sister Training Leaders (STL's) left for their missions this last Tuesday and passed the torch to me and my companions. We were nervous (because we've only been here for two weeks), but overall I think we've handled the responsibility well. As the new STL's, we get a flip-phone that we can use to call the front desk and the district president, and since it's a Samsung, naturally we've named it Sam. On top of being the new STL's, our district was chosen to host the new missionaries coming in this week! It was super crazy and SUPER cold waiting outside for everybody, but I actually ended up having a blast! I was nervous because we had to show them around campus and I can scarcely find my way around here myself, but I actually found my way around all right and I got to meet some really cool sisters going to some really cool places. 👍👍 The new Sisters in our zone seem to be adjusting well, and it's nice to be able to be there for them when they're not. I think not being the newbies has made us realize how far we've come in such a short time, and I'm excited for them to get to that point too.

We've been teaching TRC's back to back, and I think we've lucked out because they've all been really nice. We were teaching this man named Dwayne and he asked if he could take a picture with us at the end of our lessons, it was really sweet! ❤ We're teaching a lady named Jasmine this next week and I'm super pumped to get to know her more because she loves Ghibli movies and Victorian dramas and wants to know more about the gospel, so there's a lot we can talk about! We've been learning a lot about teaching people to their needs, and that's been probably my favorite part of the MTC so far because I was worried we'd be learning to cram the entire gospel in 10 minutes and then chuck it out to people willy-nilly hoping that maybe they'd understand and want to take lessons... I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's true! I was so worried that's what we'd be trying to do, and I'm SO glad it's not. Just the other day we spent 10 ish minutes just talking to someone about the concept of a Heavenly Father who loves us, and even though we didn't teach more than that, it felt more rewarding than if we did. Really trying to figure out how we can bring people closer to Christ, even if it's with just baby steps, has in turn brought me closer to Christ than I realized it ever could. I don't know if that makes any sense, but then again - what does in the MTC?

I initially thought I'd be here for only 2-3 weeks, but since we came during Christmas, we're here for 4! In a way it's nice, because I personally need all the training I can get, but I in no way came prepared for this weather! My breezy sundresses are not cutting it y'all, so pray that yo' girl and her companions (who are also going to Phoenix) can make it to their classes without loosing their legs! Shout out to my mom for mailing me some tights though, that's helped out A LOT. I ❤ you Mom!!! Speaking of the cold, I can't remember if I told everybody that I found out that I'm not even serving in Phoenix, it's everything on the border of Phoenix (Peoria up to Flagstaff) which is "colder". I don't know what that means for my wardrobe, but if it's anything warmer than what we have now, I think I'll be okay... hopefully.

Anyway, today the temple opened up again and so we got to go! It so needed it, the peace you feel at the temple isn't like any other, and the quiet atmosphere of it all lead to a really good BOM study session. I was reading in Ether 4:12, it says, " And whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do good is of me; for good cometh of none save it be of me. I am the same that leadeth men to all good: he that will not believe my words will not believe me - that I am; and he that will not believe me will not believe the Father who sent me. For behold, I am the Father, I am the light, and the life, and the truth of the world." so my main takeaway was this,

1. Anything good that happens in the world comes from Jesus Christ... let me say that again, ANYTHING good comes from Christ!

How comforting is it to know that as long as you have a desire to do good, any good, you are following Christ in one way or another? Sometimes it feels like to be a disciple of Christ you need to be able to do all these really big "good things", but in reality you can do a bunch of small things or probably anything in between because to Christ, it all counts as long as we keep going. There's so many amazing people in the world who don't feel like their doing enough (me included), but in reality if your still trying, you're still growing, and that's something to be celebrated.

Have an amazing Saturday everyone, Love you guys!
