Conferencias and all that fun stuff
Hey people!
Hope everything is going well in the opposite hemisphere! It is still warm here, but there are leaves falling to the ground, so there is hope! And like my grandma said, at least I am not in Arizona! :P Ha ha it really is super great here in Chile, and as you might have guessed from the title, we had some conferences this week! It was so awesome!
The first one we had was a zone conference, which those are always super awesome, so that was great! Our focus for the transfer is the power of the Book of Mormon, like I mentioned before, and it is just so amazing people! Our mission president talked to us about 1 Nephi chapter 8, the vision of the tree of life. In said vision, Lehi sees several groups of people pressing forward to partake of the tree of life (or the love of God, as we find out later), and in verse 24 and 30 we have two groups of people that seemingly do the same thing, but the first group eats the fruit, and then become ashamed seeing other people mocking them, and the second group eats of the fruit, but does not care what other people think, and continue having joy with their delicious fruit (which I am pretty sure was made out of chocolate). There are only very small differences between the groups. The first group clings to the iron rod (the word of God). The second group holds fast to the iron rod. And our mission president pointed out the difference- clinging is temporary; holding fast it permanent. Long story short, we must hold fast to the rod, or continually immerse ourselves in the word of God (the Scriptures). It is not sufficient to just sometimes read our Scriptures. We need to study every single day, and strive to come closer to our Savior Jesus Chirst, and we do that by studying and applying His words. It was like wow, mindblown.
The second conference we had was with Elder D. Todd Christofferson, one of the Twelve Apostles, and it was super awesome! I got to direct the music, which meant I got to sit behind him; no big deal, I was only a little excited. It was just so cool to be able to hear him and feel the love of God like radiating from His person. He talked on a wide variety of subjects because he asked the missionaries to ask him questions; for example, one of the sisters asked how we can receive revelation- the answer he gave was basically, the greater the obedience, the greater the faith, and the more you will be able to be in tune with the Spirit and receive revelation. It was legit. :)
And, we also had a fireside (not with real fire), with our mission president and converts and anyone who wanted to come listen to spiritual music and be uplifted. It was so great, and I got to play the piano and I just love how music can bring the Spirit so fast! Such a blessing!
Anyway, I better get going! We had a zone activity today so we are a little pressed for time, but thanks as always for all of your support and love! As always, feel free to write me by email or by mail, and tell me about your exciting life news, or ask me whatever burning questions you might have. :) Read the Book of Mormon! It is awesome! :D
Love,
Hermana Ashton
Fun fact 1: She finally got THREE packages! One I sent 3 months ago, one was ordered from a company in Chile who delivers directly to the mission home, and the third was the package with prescriptions that was delivered by a friend of another missionary's mom (that I never met) but just trusted who was flying to Chile! WHEW!
Fun fact 2: She got her inserts/orthotics for her feet so that's good news!
Fun fact 3: No pictures from Sister Ashton this week-she was at a different cyber location, and couldn't figure out how to upload. Also, she said most were pictures of dessert. Ha!
You can email Sister Ashton at brynna.ashton@myldsmail.net
If you would like to send her regular mail (it takes about 3 weeks for letters, about 3 months for a package!):
