Machias Washington

Sister Davidson

Blindfolds & Bridges

A record has been broken. It hadn't rained for 52 days UNTIL YESTERDAY! I never thought I'd say it, but I missed the rain! It's not raining today but I'm wearing my rain boots anyway just to satisfy the desire. Plus, the rain washed away all the smoke we had from Canada's ridiculous fires. The air is clean again! YES.

I know I touched on it last week, but now I have OFFICIALLY been out for one year. All I wanna say is, going on a mission is the best thing I have ever done! I love it!

Let me think about what happened this week...I think I mentioned it before but our zone leaders sometimes send the zone "miracle texts." So crazy cool things that happen to a companionship during the day. They always conclude it by saying how Snohomish is on fire, for example, #snohofire2k17. Well after this week, Machias turned to #snohoash. A lot of our investigators have fallen off the face of the earth. But it's fine, we'll hit it hard this week and get that Snoho fire back.

We had zone conference this week! President has been doing something different each time recently to accommodate to different learning styles. This time, he had us all show up in p-day clothes for some "team-building activities. Our zone leaders even made us matching bandannas so it was pretty great. (No picture, I'm so upset). We had to blindfold one of us and the other had to yell at a blindfolded person to direct them to ducks in the parking lot. They had to touch all 5. Well, there were like 60 of us yelling at once so that made things rather difficult. (Sister Davidson is pretty soft spoken so I had to do the shouting haha). The whole analogy was learning to listen to the voice of the spirit and not other distractions. The other thing we did was make a bridge out of wood and cinder blocks. We had to get across the parking lot without touching the ground and there were about 8 of us on the bridge. That was exhausting. All in all, it was a good day. Oh, and the zone leaders asked Miranda to speak during their instruction about how the spirit led her as she was investigating. She answered some questions after as well. The girl has basically served a mission at this point.

Ok, I don't know how many of you parents have done this, but it is the most hilarious thing I have ever seen. We were visiting a family and their kids, ages like 4 and 2 maybe, were fighting. Their mom threatened to take out the "get-along shirt." The kids started freaking out and immediately stopped their nonsense. When we asked what the heck a "get-along shirt" is she explained it. This woman literally puts both her kids in a large t-shirt so they are stuck together until they stop fighting. I will be enforcing this one day.

The saddest thing ever happened yesterday. We have this investigator Shannon, who is literally golden. In the beginning, we met with her AND her husband but he gradually became distant. I think I've talked about it before, but he is just so hurt and doesn't feel like he deserves God's love. Anyway, Shannon has just been so busy this summer that recently, she's been out of contact. Yesterday, we decided to stop by to see how they were doing. Her husband, Cline, answered the door and was very standoffish. He told us "Shannon is not here, thank you." and shut the door. My heart shattered. Not because of what he said, but because I KNOW he felt the spirit when we taught him. I felt it and I know he felt it. It is so hard to see people reject that. When you know that the gospel will literally change their lives, take away the pain, and provide peace and solace, but they harden their hearts and turn away from it. I JUST WANT TO SHAKE HIM AND MAKE HIM SEE IT. But I can't. He has to soften his heart and allow the spirit to work on him. Unfortunately, Shannon doesn't really want to do this without Cline, so she's kind of stuck right now. Ugh...why?! They need time.

On the bright side, I gave a talk in church yesterday! They called me Friday night and said the person they originally asked bailed so they wanted me to do it. I had one personal study to prepare and somehow I managed! Thank goodness! If you haven't read "Why the Church" by Elder D. Todd Christofferson, then read it. That was my topic.

By friends, we are going mini golfing now!

P.S. I would like to apologize for the lack of pictures this week. We took a way cool one at soccer this week but I never got it. Plus, we were gonna take one with everyone who hit their one year on Thursday but it didn't work out either. SO BUMMED. To try and make up for it, we have provided you with another music video. Please enjoy. (Mom you can keep this to yourself if you want. IDK what you did with the last one.)

Trying to get a good angle for the vid.
