Fun fact: The sun sets just before 5 pm now so that's exciting. 5 pm basically feels like midnight. It's an adjustment.
It was a good week! On Thursday we were out trying to make some visits but literally no one was home. For our last visit before dinner, we went to see the Simmons. They are an older, non-member couple. Apparently, the wife's brother in law is related to a member of the Seventy! (or something like that) Anyway, after we got to know them a little, the husband said he has wanted to read the Book of Mormon for a while now! What?! So we gave them one and have an appointment with them tomorrow! New investigators! Yes!
So Joshua...all week he wasn't returning our phone calls or responding to our texts. The only thing we could do at that point was show up at his doorstep, so we did. We had to kind of re-establish some expectations seeing as his date to be baptized is the 19th. He said he was just feeling lazy and super busy with everything going on (translation: Satan is working on him hard) We also learned that he still chews tobacco...no!! He said he is trying to quit but needs to do it at his own pace. We talked a lot about faith and if he took a leap of faith and trusted God, then he will be strengthened and able to overcome this addiction. (Background information: he was addicted to heroine for the past 10 years and has an 8-year-old son.) Anyway, we asked if he had any in his apartment and he said yes. We asked him to give it to us and he said "NO WAY! I know how to get over an addiction and going cold turkey is not the way for me, but I promise I won't buy any after I finish this one!" Well that wasn't good enough for us so we just kinda sat in silence for a bit, then talked some more, then sat in more silence. Ya know, to let the spirit work on him. We asked so many times and every time he said "no, and I'm sticking to it!" We shared the story of Christ walking on water and that kind of faith that would have taken. We also shared Alma 26:12 "Yea, for I know that I am nothing, as to my strength I am weak, therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in His strength I can to all things, yea, many mighty miracles." After some serious persistence he said "FINE!" and got rid of his tobacco and hasn't had any since! YES! He also got a priesthood blessing this Sunday! We still have to push his date back but I am so proud of his faith and know God will help him through this!
Also, recently Adam hasn't been super committed to being baptized but every lesson he opens up more and I can really see his progression! We had a lesson with him a few days ago and he finally said he is ready to be baptized!! We are going to teach him every day this week and he will be baptized on the 19th! He has been so prepared by the Lord and we didn't have to do much! He has said multiple times that he feels he needs to share his testimony more often and with more people. He is such an example to us all! We are so so excited for him and his family! I know this decision will effect generations to come!
That's all I got for this week.
Love you all!
P.S. Today we are having a surprise party for Birdy, because she is going home! She leaves on the 21st. I am going to miss her so much. Next week will be so different with her gone. I will be taking over Ferndale with a whole new companion. No more Stokes, no more Bird, no more awesome three pack. So sad…. but new adventures await!!
