Sister Bird

My First Area

Hey people I made it to Washington!! IT IS BEAUTIFUL HERE! This was the craziest week, saying goodbye to my district (so sad), traveling to Washington, and getting a new companion! Her name is Sister Bird and she is a lot of fun! But good news, Sister Stokes and I are in the same district still so we see each other a ton! Whoo hoo!

I traveled to Washington with 18 elders. I was the only girl! The mission president and his wife, along with 2 assistants (2 more elders) picked us up. An hour later Sister Stokes arrived so we were reunited again! Everyone was so nice. We went to the Seattle temple and took a picture and then went to the mission home to eat. I was STARVING! They fed us Costa Vida type stuff. After our meal we had interviews and we were paired with our new companions. I was nervous, not gonna lie. I was paired with Sister Bird, which I am happy about. We get along great. Our apartment is very small and old but it is clean and safe. We live in a nice area.

I got a warm Washington welcome with lots of rain the first few days, it has warmed up a bit since then. I love studying in our little apartment while its rainy and foggy outside. We turn on the heater and wrap up in blankets, it feels like fall!

Cool story: Yesterday we went to see a referral at an apartment complex. We knocked on the door a couple times but no one answered. We started walking away when Sister Bird said we should go back and knock all the doors in this specific spot, so 6 doors. The first one we tried opened the door and said now wasn't a good time because her husband just took an ambulance to the hospital and was waiting for a phone call. We offered to pray with her and she was very nice but said again that it wasn't a good time and to pray on our own. As we were walking away, she stopped us and said last time this happened to her husband a few months back, two elders came knocking on her door after he left for the hospital and they also offered to pray with her. She was amazed at God's timing and said, "the Mormons always show up when I'm going through something" We have an appointment to teach her tonight.

I don't have much time but I promise I will write more next time! Love you all and have a great week!

Love,
Sister Hilton
