So I am sure many of you have heard that there was this mega, record-breaking storm coming to the Pacific Northwest this weekend. How many state side missionaries can say they experienced a monster typhoon?! Sister Bird and I were prepared with water, flashlights, chocolate, and church movies for our DVD player. I was totally stoked...until it didn't actually happen. There was however winds that could probably knock a twig over!
Update on that "extremely cool Jamaican," Rohan. He came to church again!! The Bishop's wife invited him over for dinner and they had the missionaries who serve in the area he lives come over too! Their son played Piano Man and Rohan sang and played the guitar. They taught him the first lesson, The Restoration, and have an appointment to teach him later this week! How awesome! I'm just sad we don't get to teach him :( That's okay though!
Sister Bird and Sister Dietz had to go to a Sister Training Leader meeting so I went on an exchange with Sister Hoch. I did pretty good without my trainer âmomâ and I really like Sister Hoch, sheâs super cute!
On Saturday, Sister Bird was sick so I spent all morning reading this talk called The 4th Missionary. There are so many things about it that I loved but I'll narrow it down to one thing for now.
We can serve God with all our might, mind, and strength. But if our heart is not in it, we will not be changed. And why sacrifice all we do as missionaries and members of the church, if we aren't going to benefit personally from it? In the talk it says, "Just give it up. Surrender your will to Him. Unconditionally. Withhold nothing. Turn it all over to Him; all of your desires, wishes, ambitions, dreams, and hopes. Be true and faithful in your head and in your heart, not just in your behavior. Trust in Him. Trust Him who knows all things. Trust Him who has all power. Trust Him whose love for you is perfect. Trust Him, who alone suffered, paid and atoned for your sins, and for your weaknesses as well. Trust Him that He will make of you, immeasurably more than what you will ever, ever, in all eternity, make of yourself. He will create of you a masterpiece. You will create of you only a smudge. You will create an ordinary man; He will create a God."
I know that as we forget ourselves and go to work, the Lord can not only work through us, but to us.
