Ok this week was awesome!!! K-Sand is seriously the coolest and I would stay here my whole mission and be totally fine with it!!
Søster Carpenter officially left for Bergen on Monday so its been a week now without my trainer slash mom!! It is so weird without her she was the k-sand pro!!! But surprisingly things are going well. Søster Neilson and I haven't gotten lost yet and we are still really busy which makes me really happy!
I have been thinking a lot this week about why I am here on a mission and how much I have grown in my testimony starting from the MTC! I just cant even begin to explain how wonderful it is to be able to see the gospel changing peoples lives and seeing how much it means to the members up here in Norway. I have just been reflecting about how much I took it for granted growing up and how lazy I was with everything! We ask people to pray and read their scriptures every day and it just hits home every time because I know how hard it was for me and when they struggle with it I just want to give them a big hug because I am like hey I was there like yesterday!! Its been really humbling to see that it does not matter how much I know about the gospel or how much I can speak or whatever but I just have decided that I love everyone that I talk to or teach and the rest follows!!
Which is why I said Free hugs and Bananas!!
In our contacting time this week we have had some interesting things happen which is probably my favorite thing to write about because sometimes I forget how weird it really is that we stop people to ask them what is important to them or what gives them joy and then start talking about family and the gospel. But its also really cool because people dont always accept it but I know that if we helped them feel like there was something more in life for them then they think that they wont forget and hopefully they are more receptive another time!
So anyways there was this older lady that we talked to on the street and she spoke super fast!! In the south the dialect is slower than in most other places in Norway which is super awesome when your learning norwegian!! Anywho she just talked so fast but I understood her and we talked about how the gospel and faith in christ is so important and I think she got it because she said you two just glow and you are so happy and I am so happy you are making the world a better place and she gave us a hug and said she wasnt interested.. but free hugs are always nice, Then the next person we talked to literally 30 seconds later was a hippy like no shoes, rope belt, flower shirt, aztec flannel, dreds, the whole deal!! I was like we have to talk to him!! Hippys always have stories!! So we asked him what gave him hope... 10 minutes later we got a really descriptive and elaborate story about a flower growing in the asphalt. It was great!!! HAHAH then we told him about what we believed abd he was like thats great and he gave us a hug after we pleaded him not to and basically tried running away haha Other story.. So there is this guy named TAHA and he says hi to us everytime we see him, and the other day he just grocery shopped and gave us a banana!! It was the best!!! He is a little on the creepy side so I am not sure if we will teach him but we just got a lot of kind things this week!!
So the moral of the story is if you are really nice and show people how much you love them even if you dont know them you might end up with a hug or a banana.
Taieb is doing really good!! He is going to be baptized in a few weeks and I just wish you could meet the guy!! He makes me so happy and he is the most faithful person I have ever met!!! He does not speak english or norwegian very well so he understand the concepts on the most basic level we can teach and he just feels the spirit so strongly and keeps every comittment!!! It reminds me of how much we can accomplish when we are humble and childlike! Oh man he is the best!!!
Also Erik is one who is doing really well too! He thought the iron rod was comparible to a portal to heaven which I couldnt really deny but was also a new interpretation:) He lives with his aunt in a place called birkeland that you should all look up because it is beautiful!!!
We were also able to get a hold of three people we havent heard from in a couple weeks which was a big relief!!
Thats the gist of the week but the final thought is just from our presidents message that I really liked..
President Hinckley said, “Don’t be gloomy. Do not dwell on unkind things. Stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. Even if you are not happy, put a smile on your face. Accentuate the positive. Look a little deeper for the good. Go forward in life with a twinkle in your eye and a smile on your face, with great and strong purpose in your heart. Love life.”
In John 16:33 we read, “In life you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer.” And why should we be of good cheer? Because He has “overcome the world.”
Sometimes it is easy to get down especially when people decide they dont want to keep learning about the gospel but then I have to remember I still need to be happy so that when we do find the people who are ready that I am happy to share it with them!
I love you all and I hope that you are having a great summer!!
