This week has just been amazing! I have definitely seen the Lord guiding the work every single day!
So I dont remember if I have said this before but our mission President is crazy! He is from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He has the biggest personality. He always has a big smile on his face and has SO much faith. Infact. A member of the Seventy came to our mission and told us that our mission President was called to our mission because we needed to have African faith to prepare this area for the second coming of the Savior! CRAZY!
President Mutombo recently reset our mission goals, and let me tell yah, they are definitely stretching us and trying our faith. He wants the mission to baptize 1,000 people by the end of the year. That is 1 baptism, per companionship, per month. That is a lot for our mission. To put that into perspective, the highest amount if people baptized in a month for our mission, that I can remember, was 40. So if we kept that up for 12 months our mission would baptize 480 people per year. So yeah, President Mutombo has A LOT of faith! It's been really cool to see my faith grow over the last couple of months as he has extended commitments and promises to the missionaries, and then seeing the promises be fulfilled as I've kept those commitments
The most recent commitment he has given us is to ask members to go with us and introduce us to the their neighbors. I dont know why, but this was really intimidating for me. It took a lot of courage to ask members to put themselves out there to help us. But, this week we did it and it's been awesome! Members here are so willing to help out and we've gotten some really awesome Referrals because of it!
Another small thing that happened this week: Sister Kenner and I were staying in one day and during our studies I got the impression that I needed to make sure I acted on every impression I had. This is something that I have been working on all week, but i haven't been the best at...
Anyway, after studies I had the impression to call one of the Sisters. We talked for a little bit and then she just opened up to us and told us she was really struggling. Almost the exact same thing happened later on that day with someone we are teaching! I was just so amazed with how simple the thoughts I had to call those people were, but yet how important they were. Honestly, if I hadn't felt earlier that morning the need to pay attention to the impressions I had, I probably would have pushed them away!
The small things we do really have such a huge impact! Recently I have found so much comfort in the scripture Alma 26:12
"Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever."
So many times we second guess those small thoughts but when we know who those thoughts really come from, the Lord, we truly can recognized the strength and power behind them.
I know the Lord is guiding and directing our lives even more than we could ever imagine. We are instruments in His hands and when we act, even in the smallest ways, He truly can perform mighty miracles in this land!
I love you all! I hope you have an amazing week! And remember to ACT!
I GOT SHOT AT!!!! ...kind of....
