Wasn't General Conference so amazing! I swear as a missionary General Conference is more exciting than Christmas. For my friends that are a little less familiar, every 6 months The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has a worldwide conference. Over the course of two days we listen to the inspired counsel from the leadership of the church. Conference is significant because we believe in modern day revelation. We know that God has again reached out to His children in love and called a prophet. Jesus Christ is the head of his church and directly communicates to us through prophets.
I have been amazed to see how revelation throughout the church and church leaders seems to flow together with such unity. As I have been able to witness the revelation our Prophet recieves for the world, our Mission President for this mission, our Branch President received for this branch, and even me and my companion receive for the people we are teaching, I have seen how it all lines up perfectly together. Well, I guess that makes sense because we are all seeking guidance and truth from the same God who knows what the end goal is for all of His children and how to get there.
Recently in our mission we have really been focussing on strengthening the family, specifically through family history. I have been able to grow such a strong testimony in the last couple of months of the importance of bringing families together through Christ. The principles we learn from family, both living and dead, of the Plan of Salvation create an unbreakable bond to Christ as our desire to be with those we love forever increases. This kind of faith and love is best learned in the home! So of course when they announced both the change to church meetings and twelve new temples, I new 100% that this was the Lord's plan. I just love seeing more and more of the Lord's vision being rolled out in front of us with every General Conference!
This week we were able to do a lot of service. Charity is something that the Lord has definitely been trying to teach me this transfer. Sister Applegate is such a great example to me of someone who has the pure love of Christ. Sometimes it is so easy to get caught up in "doing the work" that it is easy to neglect the people around you that just need a person to talk to or a little extra help. The funny part is that's really what this work is all about, being willing to, "mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places". (They also talked a lot about this at conference. Coincidence? I think not!)
It's amazing to see the connection that comes by simply taking a few extra minutes to really talk with someone and care for them!
So these are all the thoughts that are on my mind this week. The Lord is teaching and chastening me everyday. It's so great!
What did you learn from General Conference?
I love you all! Have a great week!
