Aloha everyone! I just want to start off by saying a big mahalo for all of the birthday wishes. I can't believe today is my last day as a teenager. 20 years have come and gone so fast. Today is also my 8 month mark on the mission. That's really weird too because it seriously feels like I left a few weeks ago. But I am so blessed. I can honestly say this is the happiest I've ever been. I LOVE being a missionary!
This week was full of chaos and fun.
To start off, we went on exchanges. I got to stay here in Keolu with Sister Bongalon and it was a super fun day. I had no idea where we were going half the time so we got lost a few times, but it was all good.
I'm sure you're all waiting to hear about the embarrassing thing I did this week. Because although I may be 20 now, I'm still the same old Alexis.
This past Sunday I was asked to give a talk about not judging others. It was a good topic for me to research and study about. While I was speaking, I said "you know.. one thing that we all need to remember is that the Gospel is NOT perfect but the people in it ARE." Right after I said that, realizing what I'd done, I turned bright red and apologized multiple times. You can always count on me to accidentally teach false doctrine from the pulpit. But I guess it helped to further-prove my point haha.
Just so we are all clear.. What I meant to say is "The Gospel is perfect, but the people in it are not."
Sometimes we have to learn to be patient with others and their imperfections, and more times than not, that person with imperfections is ourselves. We need to be patient with ourselves and our flaws because our Heavenly Father is patient with us too.
A scripture that I read this week that I really loved is 3 Nephi 13:21. It reads,
"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
This really helped me to take a step back and look at what all of my priorities are. Whatever we put at the top of our list, that is where our heart is going to be too. I would invite all of you to re-evaluate your priorities and make sure what's most important is at the top. We want to treasure our relationships with our families and friends, and also our relationship with our Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ.
1. Yay for exchanges!
2. Car selfie with my amazing companion. It was 68 degrees outside and we were both freezing!
3. There are so many beautiful flowers in Hawaii.
