"Sister Hoffman? Are you a nun?"

yes, you read the subject title right.... haha people here in Hawaii are so funny! I have been mistaken for a nun a few times this week. not sure I've ever seen a nun wear a bright yellow dress and sandals, but it's ok :) makes for a good laugh.
another interesting thing that happened this week was someone was telling Sister Jensen and I the root of terrorism. to her, it was because of the Mormons... she believes that some of the first Mormon temples were built on uranium mines. The Church then sold the uranium to Russia for their bombs or something? So that is why she thinks 1. Mormons are rich and 2. the world has terrorists.
*DISCLAIMER* none of that is true!!!! people in this world today believe the craziest things, sometimes it's hard not to laugh at how ridiculous they sound. I thought you would enjoy hearing about some of the false Mormon stereo-types that we deal with from day to day haha.
this week I found a scripture in John 15:10 that I absolutely LOVE! it says, "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love." this is such a huge promise. We all know how much our Heavenly Father loves His son Jesus Christ. We are promised to have that same amount of love as we keep His commandments. Not only will we feel of that love, we will abide in it! Keeping commandments and being obedient has taken on a whole new meaning to me as I have become a full-time missionary. I know that any commandment we are given, however small and insignificant it may seem, it is for a reason. As we are submissive to our Heavenly Father and do as He asks, we are promised more blessings than we can imagine. I am so grateful to be here on a mission. It really is true when they say that a mission prepares you for the rest of my life. I know that my Father in Heaven loves me, and more importantly I know that He loves all of you. I pray every day that all of you back home continue to prosper and live happy lives. Thank you for all of your prayers and emails. It is much appreciated. Happy Halloween! Don't eat too much candy ;)
with love and much aloha,
sister hoffman

1. sister Jensen and I dressed up as "samoan" elders for our ward's trunk or treat because we were allowed to wear a white shirt & tie but still had to wear a skirt. hahaha it was so funny, our ward sure got a kick out of it!
2. took advantage of the sign in front of the Methodist church here in Pearl City ;)
3. my new bird friend I made in some random person's house lol. being a missionary is so funny
