This week was transfers and I was convinced that I was going to leave Quarai because I have already been here for 3 changes (4.5 months) and with my companion for 3 months, which is a long time in one area! BUT..... I'M GOING TO STAY IN QUARAI!!!! I'm so excited to stay in Brazil, to practice my Portuguese and serve the Brazilians here AND to be in a country that has peanut butter!!! God knew that I couldn't go a year and a half with out Peanut butter!! :)
The same day the zone leaders told us the changes was also the same day that Altina was getting baptized. We have been teaching her for about 3 weeks, and she is AWESOME! When we told her that next week there was a possibility that we could get transfered to a new area she told us, " NO you guys are going to stay I know it!". It was so sweet because after we told her about the changes, that we both would be staying, she said, " I prayed that you would stay! I knew it!" God really does answer prayers! :)
This week was also the birthday of my companion!! She turned 20 years old, not a teenager anymore, LOL The whole day we were making jokes that our backs and knees hurt. With the help of the other sisters in our zone we put together a surprise for her. We blew up balloons and made pancakes before she woke up. We were super lucky because the alarm went off 3 different times and she didn't wake up!! I'm super grateful for my cute litte chilean companion! She has helped me strengthen my testimony of Christ and she has an amazing testimony of Joseph Smith. I'm blessed to be her companion and I know that the Lord puts people in our path for a reason. I know that is the same way for each of us, the people in our lives have a grand purpose, to teach us and to help us! :)
The other day we had a Charla with our sweet Jessica, she is the woman who is planning on getting married to get baptized. I admire her so much. This Sunday she came to church all by herself because her boyfriend, who is a member, had to work and her kids were miss behaving and so she decided to come to church all by herself! :) We had an awesome lesson in Sunday School, (I love how all over the world its the same thing!) about what we need to do to be partakers of Gods greatest gift, "Eternal Life". I loved the quote by Sister Reeves in the Come Follow me book,
“I do not know why we have the many trials that we have, but it is my personal feeling that the reward is so great, so eternal and everlasting, so joyful and beyond our understanding that in that day of reward, we may feel to say to our merciful, loving Father, ‘Was that all that was required?’ I believe that if we could daily remember and recognize the depth of that love our Heavenly Father and our Savior have for us, we would be willing to do anything to be back in Their presence again, surrounded by Their love eternally. What will it matter … what we suffered here if, in the end, those trials are the very things which qualify us for eternal life and exaltation in the kingdom of God with our Father and Savior?”
I know that all the afflictions that we go through in this life will one day be made up in the happiness and peace we will receive in the next life! This truth is so reassuring because everyday we are asking people to leave the comfort of their lives and get married, stop smoking, stop drinking, start reading the scriptures everyday and get baptized! But in the light of this quote, all of this really is nothing in comparison to our promissed blessings. I know that the Lord keeps his promises when we keep ours! :) I know that the Lord tries our faith to strengthen us, he knows our effort and is full of compassion and mercy. I'm amazed at just how merciful the Lord is with our investigators. They seriously go through so much just to take that first step of baptism! Altina decided to live the law of chastity, Jessica is trying to stop smoking and needs to get married, Robson is trying to find out if the Book of Mormon is true a-mist all of his bible knowledge. Yet HIS arms of mercy are extended still! :)
Cute funny story: This week we were talking with Victor, the son of Jessica that is 10 years old and he and his brother Anderson (7 years) Looked at our name tags and asked if we were sisters! We jokingly said "YA" and we look a like too! Victor said No, we are all siblings, por parte de Dios, or on Gods side! :) Its was super sweet!
I love this work and am so grateful to be serving as a missionary of the lord!! What a great time to be a member of the church! :) I love you all! Have a wonderful week! Choose the right!
