Elm Creek Ward

Sister Brown

Howdy and Happy new year
Our mission president told us this past week that our mission -all together- had 365 baptisms this year. One convert for everyday of the year. #blessed
I never understood how truly bipolar the weather is until this past week. Thursday we weren't allowed to drive or bike because of ice. Friday is was sunny and 65 degrees.
Monday through Wednesday the temps didn't get above 40, the rain kept coming, and I have never been so cold ever. To all those who are missionaries in Canada or colder places than Oklahoma wow you are amazing. The wind and humidity here make the cold so bitter, it's a blessing in disguise though because people will offer us hot chocolate or to come in and warm up. Heavenly father knows the doors we need to get into.
Funny story
We were knocking doors on Friday, the first house we knock we just hear birds chirping like tons of them. The lady answers and let us in, gives us a quick spew about her parrot rescue AND she was wondering when the missionaries were gonna stop by again - wait what? She used to have "the boys" over all the time. Anyway Lisa has over 80 birds in her house from parrots, macaws, cockatoos, to the tiny ones pet store birds, man it was LOUD and they were all so cute. We have a return appointment for later this week.

We've been able to have some really cool experiences with our investigators this week. We were talking to Dee on Wednesday, we're talking about after Christ died how there were so many natural disasters, he said "oh I know the whole earth went through that" we then introduced the Book of Mormon which contains a record of that destruction and later visitation from the savior. Since I got to elm creek we've been trying to set up an appointment with Tim. This past Saturday we finally were able to meet, and apparently a long time ago, he read the whole Book of Mormon He has alot of questions. ALOT. So pray for Tim
We have appointment set up this week with Stephanie, Cecil, Don and Taylor- all people who have liked what we said on their doorstep and have invited us back. Going to teach someone for the first time, extra prayers would be appreciated for their hearts to be in the right place to receive!

It's so cool to watch the lord provide for us, because He really does. We, as missionaries are just here to be the physical representatives of Jesus Christ because he can't be here himself. Even though this week has been freezing, I've felt genuine happiness and desire to BIKE IN THE COLD. as we knock on doors and talk to strangers I feel genuine love for these people, because I know who they are to heavenly father. I've set a goal this month to testify frequently of Jesus Christ through the book of mormon, as I've said before I LOVE THE BOOK OF MORMON!! I'm learning and recognizing the principles and simple doctrines it teaches, that when we model our lives after we can live after the manner of happiness it talks about in 4 nephi "there was no contention in the land because of the love of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people... and surely there could not be a happier people among all the people who had been created by the hand of God." I know that Jesus Christ is the source of genuine, never-ending happiness and the book of mormon is a tool given to us to get closer to Christ.

I love this work more than anything!! Sending love and prayers your way!!
