Chapter 2 I get Shot(s) and how to send me cookies
So last week’s update was pretty weak sauce. Honestly I had become so frustrated with all the failing tech around me (finding out how to Skype my family was nightmarish... I have no idea how to work Apple devices!) that I spent my energy. But I am learning. And I find that the more I draw closer to Christ the happier I am in my day-to-day life. There’s so many ways that we can draw closer to Him. We can search the Scriptures, we can pray, we can help others. And when we’re focused on ourselves, like I was last week, we just get frustrated. That’s the natural man taking over. In the Book of Mormon we read
“For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord...” (Mosiah 3:19) This is what I’m trying to do, and it is also what I am inviting others to do- come unto Christ. We can’t put off the “natural man” without Him.
There is this lovely mural here in one of the teaching buildings of Christ telling His Disciples, in Matthew 28:19 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” This is our charge as well, as His disciples.
The painting also reminded me that Jesus taught everywhere. Everywhere. He stopped to teach all the time. This is another way we can follow His example! Open your mouth and let the Spirit fill it. You never know if the Lord wants to use you to answer someone’s prayer. Oh and what a privilege it is to be used in His work!
Phewph, what a tangent. I just can’t help it.
The Missionary Training Center is one of the best places on Earth. The Spirit of the Lord is so strong. And Holy Cow, I now pray exclusively in Portuguese and me and my companion teacher Sister Darnell will be teaching 2 lessons today entirely in Portuguese. No where else could we learn this in 12 days.
Oh right. Shots.
So I thought I had all the immunizations I needed for Portugal. I was waaaaay off, not even in the same ballpark. So I came into the Nurse's office here not knowing what to expect and left with 3 shots in my left arm and 2 in my right. I wish y'all could have seen me try to life my arms. Not going to lie it was pretty funny. To me at least. I thought it would make a nice little hook for the subject of this email 😂
I love you all, I love the Lord and I'm so thankful for His Gospel!
