Missions of Mercy

Hey Mom! Sorry that last week's email was a little depressing! There was just a lot going on and I literally spent all my emailing time writing that email and didn't have any time to tell you any more that happened. Although the beginning of last week was a little rough, okay a lot rough, the ending to the week and beginning of this week made up for it I think.

So Sunday night we had MLC with Elder Taylor and it wad absolutely amazing being in the mission home with him and learn from his teachings. Honestly I think that it was one of the most spiritual experiences I've ever had in my entire life. He talked a lot about knowing our identity and how that helps us to fulfill our purpose so that we can reach our destiny. When we truly come to know our worth and potential as children of God, it changes everything! It changes the way we live, it changes the decisions we make, it changes our outlook on the trials we are given, etc. We focused a lot on understanding that and then helping others to understand it as well. We also talked about it a little more in depth on the missionary side of things. That when we truly understand the power and authority of being a representative of Jesus Christ has, the way that we choose to fulfill our purpose changes. We understand better the magnitude of our calling and our sense of urgency increases. He used a story from when he was a boy to explain it. He talked about how he would go fishing for fun and he loved catching fish. If he caught a fish that day he was SO excited about it and would show it off to all of his friends before taking it home. If he didn't catch a fish then it was a bummer but no big deal because he would just go home for dinner. His business partner on the other hand was living a different life. He went fishing to live. As a 5 or 6 year old boy he would go fishing for his family and if he caught something that day he was so excited because they would have dinner. If he didn't catch any fish that day then they didn't eat. It really made me reflect on my sense of urgency in sharing the gospel. If we see the bigger picture and look at the eternal scheme of things, then we truly do go out with the sense of urgency that if we don't catch a fish, we won't eat. It was a super incredible experience because after zone conference we had met with the elders to discuss how we can work better in this ward and our area after everything we learned at zone conference. After our meeting we walked out of the church and this guy came up to us and started talking to us about how he felt like he was ready to be baptized and turn his life over to the Lord. So I read 2 Nephi 31:17 "Wherefore, do the things which I have told you I have seen that your Lord and your Redeemer should do; for, for this cause have they been shown unto me, that ye might know the gate by which ye should enter. For the gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost." And then Elder Dalebout put him on date! The best part was that he was actually in another area so we got to pass him over to those elders! Zone conference was really good too! Elder Taylor gave us some really good finding ideas that we are excited to implement here.

Tuesday was pday and we got to go to the state capitol building and tour it. It was super fun to be with all the missionaries and see some of the history of North Dakota. There is a museum here that we are hoping to check out in the next couple weeks so I'm pretty excited about that too! We had dinner with the Harris family and they are amazing!! It was a nice refresher to have a family that understands our time crunch as missionaries and still be able to have a good time with them! We shared a message and they gave us two referrals!

Wednesday District Council was so good! We talked a lot about patience and also about working better with people and ministering more to them. We went finding for a little while and then had ward correlation with Brother Jones before heading over to meet with Izzy and Sister Zins. We drove up to Underwood on Thursday to see Mandy and it was a good time! Her fiance sent us home with 20 lbs of potatoes so luckily we have a million missionaries that we can distribute them between!

We spent some time on Friday and Saturday at this event called Mission of Mercy which was a free dental care clinic for everyone. We spent from 10 am- 3:30 pm on Friday and 5 am to 10:30 am on Saturday just talking to the patients that came in and helping them through the process. It was really amazing and I think over 700 patients were seen for free. We actually were able to talk to quite a few of them and get the name tag out there which was good :) Elder Bagley and Elder Dalebout had a baptism this week for George and it was amazing. I always love seeing these people making that covenant to enter the gate and follow Jesus Christ. George is really cool and is so excited to get a calling in church! Mandy was able to drive down from Underwood with all 6 kids to come to church so that was a miracle! It was so good to have her there and see that she was willing to make the sacrifice to come.

Last night we had a Bishop's Youth Discussion with all the youth on missionary work and it was incredible. We did it face to face style, having the youth ask us questions and then we were able to bear testimony of missionary work. The Spirit was incredibly strong and I love that we are able to work more with the youth! I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying the fall weather of the 80s! It has been in the 40s all week here which is a little chilly to say the least... Minot got some snow last night, but luckily it didn't stick. IT'S ONLY OCTOBER!!! AHHH!! But this week I had to unpack all my winter clothes, the heating blanket and the sun lamp... ahhh man! It will be good though!

I hope Seth is feeling better and am so excited that he is able to try all these new things! Wish Bryce good luck for me! I hope all goes well with practice and with Freak Show! That's exciting that he is ranked so well and hopefully they can get everything worked out so he doesn't have to cut that much weight! Hope you have a wonderful trip up to Utah and enjoy conference! I love you so much!
