Ok so this week went off with a bang!
To start, I absolutely have to tell you what happened to Sister Rolfson and me this morning (why I'm writing so late). We went to the park after studies so she could run while I sat and watched and studied some more, and when we were done we headed to the bathroom to get changed into our skirts before hitting the grocery store. Well, Sister Rolfson went in and I was still grabbing my bag of clothes, and then I hear her jiggling the door handle and knocking. ... so I walk over and try to open the door for her. IT WAS STUCK.she literally couldn't leave the bathroom. We tried to open that door for like 15 minutes, but the handle was broken. I even tried sliding a credit card under the door and letting her try that but we could only get it 75% of the way through. Finally, we decided we would have to call for help. But who the heck do we call??? Our zone leaders definitely weren't gonna fix this one. Haha so I started running around the park checking all the signs to look for a phone number because we didn't have google to just look up the police department or anything and she wasn't dying so we weren't desperate enough for 9-1-1. Eventually I found a trail marker sign with a phone number on it for trail maintenance, so I called and it put me through to Laguna Niguel City Hall. Haha I am dying remembering this. Well, an Austrailian lady picks up the phone and I think I said, "Hi! I'm with my friend at Chapparosa Park and the doorknob on the bathroom broke and she's stuck in there!" Hahahahahaha she started laughing and I cracked up at the absurdity of what I had just said lol. Then she quickly apologized for laughing and transferred me to Public Works, where I repeated the same conversation with an African American lady. :D Then finally she got me connected to a maintenance named Rob and he said it was the first time in 30 years he'd heard of something like this but he'd be there in 15 minutes. So we waited and waited and I'm talking to Sister Rolfson through the door and poor girl is stuck in a public restroom and so I grabbed my camera and took a selfie ;) After a while Rob got there and got her out pretty fast but I don't think we'll ever forget this day. I'm still laughing at the irony. Why do these things happen to us?
On to the more important parts of the week. Thursday we had fun making dinner for a sister in our ward. She had signed us up for dinner that night, but she is elderly and she had a bad fall earlier in the week, so we just made dinner for her instead! It was a fun opportunity to do some service :)
Friday night we had the ward LUAU!!! :D we have been inviting people and encouraging members to invite people for a few weeks now and it was a SMASHING SUCCESS! As soon as we arrived we got attacked by the grass-skirt-bandits (Georgie and a friend) who came up behind us and wrapped grass skirts around us before we noticed haha! We had so many non-members there, mainly youth: Nico & Sascha Otteson, Georgie, Breezy, Gaven, Zach & Morgan, and many more friends. We had permission for the night to be at the beach and it was so fun to see so many people we love having fun together. There were hula dancers and they taught some of the kids and people they pulled up to hula with them and Sam Adams got picked and had to go hula haha :) It was also fun to watch Sam and Dominic play together in the sand. When Dominic discovered he could fall in the sand and it didn't hurt it was so funny. He had a blast playing with Sascha, too. Everyone thought it was pretty funny, though when the elders got up and played the ukulele and sang, "If you're happy and you know it." :) The best part of the night, though, were the s'mores at the end! I miss s'mores and bonfires.
Saturday afternoon, PILAR GOT BAPTIZED! It was so exciting to go and watch! It took a long time (6 months) but it was incredible to watch her and her two boys go under the water. I got to see Paul, too! :) The best part was lining up to take a picture of aaaaaall the sisters who have helped since Sister Bauer and I started teaching her. Only Sister van den Bron was missing :/
Um... ok yeah I think that's it. :) It was a great week and I can't wait for this one because Georgie gets baptized this weekend!
Spiritual thought of the week:
Isaiah 43:2-5 "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;"What I got from these verses was 1) we are NEVER alone. He is always there, always on our side, and always by our side. 2) He is our God, and He should be the first place we turn for strength. 3) we are precious to Him, and He loves us unconditionally, so we have no need to fear.I know that our Heavenly Father loves us, and that our Saviour walks with us on our journey. We will have hard times and challenges, but there is no challenge we will ever face alone and as we turn to Him for our strength, He will never fail us.
I love you!
Aloha,
Sister Bambas
