So one thing I'm really proud about this week is that Hermana Paje and I convinced one of the elders that we were talking in Morse code. We were tapping our cups on the table one time at breakfast and it turns out he thought we were talking about him haha! It was so funny! It drove him crazy all day! and of course the other elders went a long with it.
Also when I went to the temple I saw Abe Jensen!! Abe the babe!! It was so weird to not give him a big hug but nonetheless it was so amazing to see a friend from home. It really made me miss my big brother Ben!! I also saw my old anatomy TA who was in the same session as me! Being able to talk to him made me feel so loved and I know it was a gift from HF!!
So yesterday the district tried to speak only in Spanish for the whole day. Most. exhausting. day of. my. life. I started to get so frustrated when I couldn't say what I wanted to but it felt really good to stretch myself and try to work through it. The rest of the district only lasted until about dinner time but Hermana Paje and I lasted the WHOLE day!!!! I was so proud of us!!
I seriously love learning Spanish. The experience has really simplified my testimony if that makes any sense. I can pretty much only speak in the present tense right now and my vocabulary is limited still so I'm only able to speak about the gospel at its core. I think that we spend a lot of time on details that don't matter and it can feel really grounding to go back to the basics.
We had our first TRC lesson! It was in English, thank goodness!! Next week we will be starting to teach lessons in Spanish so pray for me please!!. It was pretty obvious that she was already a member, but that didn't really matter to me. She had really valid concerns and wanted to feel closer to God.When wewere preparing our lesson with her, I felt like we should read the introduction together. I had seen some missionaries in Spokane do that one time and I thought it was really cool. Anyway, when we had her read the part about how "a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts than by any other book," her face really lighted up and it looked like she had made an important realization. Anyway, a couple days later, we got an email that she was so grateful for our council with her and that she had made a big breakthrough in her life. It felt so amazing to know that what I'm doing here has improved someone's life, member or not.
Sorry my email is so long! I love all of you so much! Thank you so much to everyone who has shown me so much love while I've been away!
Have a great week!
