สวัสดี ค่ะ (hello in Thai)
Hi everyone!!
I'm just going to share some good experiences from this week to catch you up on my life at the mtc!
My district tried to do a language fast on Tuesday, which means no English for the day, only khmer (or hand signals). It was difficult but it helped me recognize a lot of words that I use every day that I want to learn in khmer. It was strange trying to force my brain to think in khmer all day but it was really cool to see myself start to understand more of the language.
Something funny this week was when I was with my companions in the bathroom and I saw 2 sisters walk in who I thought were in the Thai district. So I practiced in my head how to say hi and as we were leaving I said "สวัสดี ค่ะ" (hello in Thai). Which would have been very cool unfortunately, these were actually the korean sisters so they said to us "안녕하세요" (hello in korean) and now they think that we are the thai sisters... oops.
Last night was pretty crazy because some of the new sisters in our branch called us at like 10:30 pm because an alarm in their room (I think it is for carbon monoxide) flashed lights and beeped at them. So we tried to help them by wandering around the building trying to find an adult in charge or something since our phones can't call people. We didn't end up finding anyone and it was around 11 so we just invited them to sleep in our extra beds in our room. I don't know if technically that is allowed but we figured out a solution and I think everything is good now haha.
We had a devotional on Tuesday from Elder Funk about being disciples of Christ. He shared this awesome scripture with everyone, 3 Nephi 5:13 "Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life." This really stuck out to me because my purpose as a missionary is to do God's will and follow his footsteps. I am not going to be perfect but he has a work for me to do and I am going to be ALL IN and try my best to bring people the love and peace of Christ.
