Sister Remkes

My Favorite Sunday!

Before I left on my mission, the wise Deej Hernandez told me that there would be a companion, a person, family, or the mission president that would be the reason why I was sent to this mission. Deej's prophecy came true. haha I have to say that this is one of those families (there is a mom, dad, son (10 yrs old), and daughter (9 years old). This week was one of my favorite weeks. The Beam family is coming closer together and closer to the Savior. We taught them every day this week. Each lesson is filled with the spirit, and I always find myself on the verge of tears. The Lord is so aware of them. We taught them the Word of Wisdom and they happily accepted to live it. They expressed how living this principle of the gospel has brought them closer as a family. They read the Book of Mormon every night together, they pray together, they mark their scriptures together. Sister Remkes and I worried about them feeling comfortable at church. We prayed and prayed that they would feel the spirit there. Sunday morning we delivered pancakes to their house to wake them up. Then we waited in Sacrament meeting for them to arrive. I'll tell you WHAT, I have never been so anxious on a Sunday morning hahaha. But as we looked behind us, in comes the Beam family!!!! Heavenly Father's hand was present in the entire meeting. Every lesson and doctrine that was taught--Everything was tailored to their needs--definitely divine design. The ward was also so excited to see a new family. There was an assembly line in the ward to shake their hands hahaha! I felt like a mom watching her children on the first day of school. I just want them to make friends and to be happy! In Sunday school, the lesson was about Eternal Families. In priesthood, the father bore his testimony about how this Book of Mormon has changed his life and how he has never felt the spirit more in a church in his entire life. The men in the ward came up to us afterwards and told us how excited they are about this family. A woman in our ward told Sister Remkes and I that the Beam family all agreed that they felt loved and welcomed at church. I just feel so blessed to be teaching them. It is amazing to see true repentance. True repentance is a happy and exciting thing. Everytime we visit this family they are so ready to tell us what they are learning together. They are so happy and ready to keep all the commandments. Their baptism is on October 27th!

One of my favorite talks in conference was President Nelson's talk about the name of the Church. Every time he speaks I can feel in my heart that he is the Lord's prophet. I have seen a difference in our work when we say "We are representatives of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are your missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!" It makes all the difference.
