Dear Family
I LIVE HERE NOW! This week we had immigration and I officially am a resident here in the Republica Dominicana! It was really cool, I was able to see some of the Elders that were in the MTC with me and I also, very briefly, got to see Hermana Jepperson (my mtc comp). Also the day before we had a zone meeting and it was so weird. Everybody was off and Hermana McConkie and I talked about it after and everything was just awkward. But that's okay. ALSO it was Hermana McConkie{s birthday this week and we made flan and took some videos that were really fun. We got some ice cream to celebrate. We also have a English and sign language class in the church every Thursday and it was awesome because people actually showed up. We have this class to try and find people but also to include some of the members that are deaf and they are teaching us Spanish sign language! It has been such a fun week. We also know about transfers which are tomorrow AHHH!!!! And based on the pattern that I have had up to this point I{ve been getting ready to have a new companion. BUT HERMANA MCCONKIE AND I STAY TOGETHER!!!! Wooo hooo! We are so excited because we have a family that we are preparing the parents to get married and we are so excited for the wedding! This week has literally been the longest week ever but has been really great. We have been able to receive a lot of revelation for the people we are teaching and Hermana McConkie and I have been reading a talk called You are receiving revelation now act on it! by Lauren Dalton. It talks about how we will get /dings/ throughout the day. For example, sometimes we will be cleaning or doing homework or something and get a /ding/ I should call this person. Maybe this person is somebody you haven{t seen in 5 years. But immediately after your first /ding/ you get another /ding/ Why would I call them, I haven{t seen or talked to them in five years. One of this /dings/ is from the spirit. The other is from Satan. It is really important to recognize which voice is whose then it is even more important to act accordingly. Hermana McConkie and I have been focusing a lot on trying to recognize these voices and act how the Lord would want. We had an experience yesterday where we were walking and we passed a lady who was sitting on a bench. After a few steps we turned around having a /ding/ you should go and talk to her. We asked her if she knew about the Book of Mormon and a few other things about the church. She wasn't super responsive and wasn{t really paying attention. Then after a few moments we asked if she was okay, and that she heard. She looked at us and started crying. She said that honestly she was not okay. She is in a moment that is very difficult in her life with a lot of family issues and was considering suicide. So we sat and shared with her for a while and gave her a Book of Mormon and marked some passages for her to read. She said that now she could see the hope for her life and felt like God loves her. It was an experience I will never forget, and I can just imagine what would{ve happened if we did not listed to the spirit. I share this experience so that hopefully we can realize how important it is to follow these promptings without hesitation. And I am not saying that every time you do you{ll have an experience like that. God is trusting us with promptings so we can help his other children, our BROTHERS AND SISTERS! THEY NEED OUR HELP! We have this gospel and the happiness that it brings and we should share. A Lot of people will not accept the first time it is presented it is more likely that they will accept the 6th or 7th time. This doesn't mean we should sit there and invite them 6 times in a row. NO! But if we never start with the first invitation they will never have that opportunity. Invite without any fear. The worst that could say is no.
I love the mission so much and am learning everyday. This life is a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow and help one another on this path. None of us are perfect but that is just another way we can become more Christlike. He loves us. This love is so great that he gave his life for us. I know he lives. I love you all and am so grateful to have so much support.
Thank you for all of your love and support.
Hermana Richards
P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERIC!!!
