Over and Out

Well, my service and a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Is coming to a close. I am so grateful for this wonderful opportunity! When I started on this journey 18 months ago I could have never imagined all of the ways I was going to grow. I am so excited for the next chapter of my life but will always look back on this time with such love and gratitude for all the Lord has given me.I don't have much time to write but here is what my lovely companion, Sister Terry, had to say about our week."holy smokes. The miracles just keep multiplying. Let me tell you the story of my dear friend Gladys.Gladys moved here from Haiti six months ago. Gladys loves the Lord. Gladys does not know English. And just about four weeks ago Gladys walked into our church building on Sunday wanting to find a church. SHE HAS COME BACK EVERY WEEK. That first Sunday we downloaded the Book of Mormon on her phone in French and told her to start studying it (and by told her, i actually mean we played charades for five minutes until she understood what we were trying to say). flash forward to the next Sunday and in walks Gladys WITH HER SISTER AND NIECE!!! they are all wanting to be baptized and love the church so much,.Ok so the Gladys miracle continues. and this is an exchange miracle, me and hermana Hunter, the legend. So lessons with Gladys are very hard. She isn't comfortable with a translator and her 14 year old niece knows both languages, but it is hard for her to translate, especially because she doesn't have a deep religious background. This week before our lesson, we gave the most heartfelt prayer asking in faith for the gifts of the spirit we would need to help Gladys understand (the gift of tongues, the gift to teach simply, and the gift of patience). I am thoroughly convinced that at that moment, about 30 spirits joined the ranks from the other side to help us teach this lesson. We enter and start by using Alyssa as a translator. But all of a sudden, we start speaking directly to Gladys. We talk very slowly and the spirit starts to flood the room. She understands everything we say, and we understand everything that she says back to us. She asks a question about what she needs to do after having faith and living an righteous life. This is vital. I am about to try to explain the eternal significance of baptism, but the spirit stops me. Instead we have her turn to 3 nephi 11:33. "And whoso believeth in me and is baptized, the same shall be saved." We literally watch Gladys' arms fill with goosebumps. She says that to be baptized is exactly what she wants and we put her on date for May 4th. I have such a testimony that the Book of Mormon speaks the language of the spirit. The Lord desires us to be tools in His hands. May we all have the desire to consecrate ourselves a little more for him."Love you all! See you soon!Sister
