Hoosick Falls

Whitney Marshall

Haven't used my gps in like 6 weeks and the area book is in my brain

Hey guys! This week was another classic Hoosick Falls week. Put some investigators back in the Lord's hands who aren't ready yet, found a few new people to teach, and knocked a lot of doors. Don't let me catch you coveting my glorious life, I'll go missionary on you and teach the ten commandments. As for the subject title it's just the benefits of being in a small town area for a looong time. (So much positivity).

In all honesty I've been having a bit of a hard time lately. The realization that soon I will have served 1/3 of my mission without seeing much success is taking its toll. But this week Sister Marshall and I did a companion fast and that combined with trying to have more faith has brought blessings. My testimony has been tried and strengthened. That's how the refining process works right? The teachings of President Hinckley about happiness hit me a lot this week:

"Cultivate an attitude of happiness. Cultivate a spirit of optimism. Walk with faith, rejoicing in the beauties of nature, in the goodness of those you love, in the testimony which you carry in your heart concerning things divine. The Lord's plan is a plan of happiness. The way will be lighter, the worries will be fewer, the confrontations will be less difficult if we cultivate a spirit of happiness" "Of course the pressures are great. There is much, too much, to do. There are financial burdens to add to all of these pressures, and with all of this we are prone to complain, frequently at home, often in public. Turn your thinking around. The gospel is good news. Man is that he might have joy (2 Nephi 2:25). Be happy! Let that happiness shine through your faces and speak through your testimonies. You can expect problems. There may be occasional tragedies. But shining through all of this is the plea of the Lord: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30)" "Let there be something of a light tone in your life. Let there be fun and happiness, a sense of humor, the capacity to laugh occasionally at things that are funny." "Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured". All of this can be found in the Teachings of the Presidents of the Church chapter 3 of his book.

Ok I'm done but WOW how grateful I am for the realization that life is so much bigger than me or you or any problems that seem so worth being down about. I don't know a lot of things. I have lots of questions. I am confused as to what my purpose is just like the rest of the human population. But I DO know the plan of happiness. I DO know that there is a God who loves us. I DO know that He has made it possible for all of us to live in the fulness of times with the restored Gospel on the Earth. What we DO with that knowledge is what matters. I didn't plan on sharing any of that, but there ya go.

On a lighter note, I finally got the cops called on me!!! Woot woot! I love you all and I hope you have a great week. Try to laugh a little bit ok?
