"Dale" ?
Happy pdayyy
After a lovely pday last week and a couple of great lessons, we walked home while it was lightly raining. On the way home we saw lots of people without any power, which is pretty normal, so I didn't think much of it. When we got home we thankfully still had power, but it only lasted a couple minutes and then we were left in the dark. A couple minutes passed by and I thought I heard a truck outside our apartment so I figured it was the light crew and I went out to the balcony to watch.
*DISCLAIMER: I know absolutely nothing about electrical terms so bare with me as I try to describe what happened next*
There were two men in the air in a tiny little box trying to fix the light box up there and one man standing below with a giant yellow pole reaching up to the light box. After a little while, the men in the box moved away and said "dale" which pretty much means, do it or go ahead. So the man with the pole pushes it upwards super fast and sparks go flying out of the electrical box and we all hear a huge explosion. I turn around as I see sparks flying in our house and hermana Graves screaming. All the hermanas were so confused inside and hermana Cook thought there was a fire since we could smell smoke in the house. We ran to the bedroom that had the most sparks in, and saw the light smoking. This electrical burst burnt every single light bulb in the house and and almost every outlet. As we were looking for any damage or fire, we noticed Herman's Graves charger had exploded out of the wall and the top flew across the room with the insides burnt and laying on the ground. The sheets on her bed looked a little burnt and had almost started a fire. It was a miracle nothing actually caught fire and the outlets connected to our fridge, microwave, and washer were totally fine. God was definitely looking out for us and after a few days without power, we got it all working again.
This week was super awesome and a little crazy haha we have some super awesome little friends named Aleudris and Alexaudris who are two little brothers. We initially wanted to teach them with their grandma but she usually leaves halfway through our lessons :/ these niños are so precious and absolutely love when we come over to teach them. They always have the best answers and comprehend more than the normal adult in lessons haha (I wish I was kidding) they were so excited to receive their own Book of Mormons and they keep inviting their little neighbor friends in our lessons. They are super awesome and eager to learn, we just need more support from an older member in their family, so I'm hoping that their grandma starts to have a little more interest!
Our friend that used to hear voices in her head is actually pretty cool! She has a lot of interest to learn and unfortunately, is passing through some really hard times right now. She has a lot of anxiety about leaving her house since she just got robbed pretty badly, she doesn't have enough money to buy food for her little girls, and to top it all off, her dad just died a week ago. We are trying to do all we can to help her and extra prayers would definitely help so pls pray for Isamal!!
On Thursday our Mission President gave us permission to attend a sealing of an old missionary, so we were able to go to the temple! It has been so long since I have been and it was so nice to be there again 🤍 I saw lots of friends from Nizao which was so so fun to see and we all got to catch up. It was really cool watching a sealing for the first time and it was all in Spanish. We also helped translate (not the sealing but other comversarions) for the missionaries family since none of them spoke Spanish. It was kind of fun being a translator and realizing how much my Spanish has grown!!
On Friday I had my last English class here in Bani which was pretty sad cause I love our English classes!! On Saturday I hit 14 months in the mission which blows my mind so we celebrated by going to a Venezuelan ice cream place (S O G O O D) and then we recieved the transfer call that I was being kicked out of Bani and headed to my last area 😵💫 I guess we'll see next Pday where I end up! On the walk back I saw a couple people from Nizao who I literally never thought I would ever see again but it always makes me so so happy to see friends from past areas 💜
At conference last weekend we recieved so many compromisos to work on and one that I took to heart was the one from Holland. I have been trying to pray out loud as much as I can to really make my prayers more meaningful and I have loved the outcome. I really feel like I'm talking to God instead of offering my wondering thoughts to Him. I can feel our relationship really being strengthened and I know He truly is aware. So I challenge you all to start saying prayers out loud! Meditate on every word and give your prayers all you've got so that they can be, "our sweetest hour, our most 'sincere desire,' our simplest, purest form of worship." -Holland.
Till next week 🫡
